
Soo rolls over Jamestown, 7-3

The Soo Eagles had a four-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-3 win over the Jamestown Ironmen.
Sean Murphy had two goals and one assist to lead Soo. Murphy scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 5:19 into the second period to make the score 4-1 Soo. The Eagles had gained a power play chance when Ross Pavek was whistled for slashing. Michael Crowley picked up the assist. Murphy's next tally on the power play made the score 7-2 Soo with 19:14 left in the third period. Cody Von Reuden provided the assist.
Jamestown's seven penalties came back to haunt it, as the Ironmen let up four goals while on the penalty kill.
Soo put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Jamestown to score on any of its six power plays. The Eagles outdid their season average for goals scored. Soo has scored at the pace of 3.3 goals per game during the current campaign.
Soo additionally got points from Michael Covach, who also registered one goal and one assist, Jared VanWormer, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Eric Rivard, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Crowley, who also had one goal and one assist. Soo also got a goal from Chris Waterstreet as well. Other players who recorded assists for Soo were Alexander Taulien, who had two and Pat Thompson, Mike Sabatini, Robin Hoglund, and Kyle Loridon, who each chipped in one.
The Ironmen were often in penalty trouble, totaling five minors and two majors for 40 minutes in penalty time. Jamestown surpassed its season average of 14.0 penalty minutes per game. The Ironmen's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. Jamestown is averaging 2.5 goals against for the season. With 39 shots on target during the contest, the Ironmen exceeded the 28.9 shots they average per game this year.
Jamestown was helped by Aaron Scheppelman, who registered one goal. Scheppelman scored 12:18 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Soo. Evan Ritt assisted on the tally. Tyler Dunagan also scored for Jamestown. In addition, Jamestown received assists from Ryan Doucet, who had two and Ryan Urso, Michael Mazzotta, and Kenny Curtis, who contributed one a piece.
Tyler Marble recorded 36 saves for the Eagles. Soo ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. Tim Shaughnessy took the loss and made 12 saves before being replaced by Blake Wojtala who made seven saves.
