New Jersey Ironmen News Release

Newark, N.J. (Monday, November 24, 2008) - The New Jersey Ironmen announced today the acquisition of veteran defender Evan McNeley. The Oregon State alumnus will join the Ironmen when they open camp next Monday, December 1.

"Evan is a strong and physical player, and he brings an element of toughness to our back line that we lacked last year," Ironmen Head Coach Omid Namazi remarked. "He has a strong left foot, and he has good pace. I can see him contributing on offense as well, and I am really excited about having him on our team."

After transferring from Seattle University, McNeley lettered in both his seasons that he played at Oregon State University. His best collegiate effort came in a two-goal performance against Portland in the 2003 NCAA Tournament. He first put on his indoor flats for the California Cougars for the 2006-07 season, tallying six points on a three-point goal, two-point goal and an assist to go with nine blocks. He spent last year with California and showed his versatility by playing in all 30 matches. For the season, he registered 33 points on 10 goals (two three-pointers, eight two-pointers) and 11 assists while blocking 35 shots.

"I look for Evan to have a leadership role on our team as far as his physical play and the way he goes about the game on the field," Namazi concluded. "Once everyone on the field sees a guy playing at such a physical level, it permeates throughout the team."

The New Jersey Ironmen will make their 2008-09 season debut at Prudential Center on Sunday, December 14th, opening up their sophomore campaign at 4:00 p.m. against the Chicago Storm. The Ironmen are also partnering with Jersey Cares by hosting a coat drive at their home opener to benefit the Community FoodBank of New Jersey. Fans are encouraged to bring gently-worn coats that can be donated at the Prudential Center entrances. The Ironmen provide fun and affordable family entertainment with tickets starting at only $10!
