Milwaukee Mustangs News Release
MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee Iron announced today that it has signed quarterback, 2007 AFL Player of the Year (AFLWA) and Sturgeon Bay, WI native, Chris Greisen. After playing in the inaugural season of the UFL in 2009, Greisen comes to the Iron to lead a powerful offense while bringing leadership and experience at the quarterback position.
"This is a very exciting day for the Milwaukee Iron and Arena Football One with the signing of Chris Greisen. Chris is a proven winner and one of the most efficient and productive quarterbacks to ever play the game of Arena Football. I am also happy for Chris; playing for in Milwaukee allows him to continue his career at the highest level of this sport while being able to stay close to home and his family near Green Bay," said Iron Head Coach Bob Landsee.
Greisen, 33, holds the single-season touchdown record in the Arena Football League by throwing for 117 in 2007, his first full season as a starter in the AFL as a member of the Georgia Force. That same season he was named First-Team All-Arena after posting an AFL record 74.0 completion percentage. Greisen also set Force single-season highs in passing attempts (530), completions (392), touchdowns (117) and passing yards (4,851) in 2007. Over Greisen's four-year AFL career he has compiled a quarterback rating of 131.9, which ranks as the highest career rating of any starting QB to ever play in the AFL for that length of time.
In four AFL seasons, two as a full time starter, Greisen has passed for 9,939 yards with 217 touchdowns, a completion percentage of 71.0 (801-for-1129) and a passer rating of 126.8. In his two years as a starter, Greisen led the Force to a 24-8 record and two first place finishes in the National Conference South.
Greisen began his Arena Football career as a member of the Green Bay Blizzard in 2004 after spending a season with the Rhein Fire of NFL Europe. He finished second in af2 with 2,718 passing yards and added 61 touchdowns. After a successful season in af2, Greisen made the jump to the Arena Football League, starting his AFL career with the Dallas Desperados.
Greisen was originally drafted in the seventh round of the 1999 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals after a successful college career with NW Missouri State. He was a two-year starter and two-time All-America selection after leading the Bearcats to a Division II National Championship his senior season. He ranks first in school history for single-season touchdowns (25) and passing yards (2,937) and earned Academic All-MIAA honors as a sophomore while taking MIAA Player of the Year honors in 1998.
A native of Sturgeon Bay, WI, Greisen was a two-time All-Conference selection at Sturgeon Bay High School. He also earned all-region honors as a basketball player. In addition to his work on the field, Greisen operates the popular Chris Greisen Quarterback Academy in Green Bay and on location during the offseason. In addition, Greisen is also the co-host of "Talking Football with Chris Greisen", a radio show that airs Tuesday's from Noon-1PM on 1570 AM The Score in the Green Bay/Appleton area and streams live at am1570thescore.com.
