International League News & Notes
Published on May 27, 2010 under International League (IL1) News Release
BUFFALO BISONS www.Bisons.com
THOLE CATCHING ON WITH BISONS: C Josh Thole didn't play during a recent six-day stint with the Mets, but since his return, the prospect has been a different player. In the nine games since rejoining the Bisons, Thole has hit .353 (12-34) with five doubles, a home run, three RBI and six runs scored. He doubled in four consecutive games, May 20-23. Thole, who skipped the Triple-A level in 2009 to make his major league debut with New York, was hitting just .203 in 21 games before his promotion this season.
HITS KEEP COMING FOR FELICIANO: OF Jesus Feliciano was named International League Batter of the Week on Monday. The outfielder hit .483 (14-29) last week with four doubles, a triple, five RBI and five multi-hit efforts. Feliciano had a 12-game hit streak from May 12-23 that vaulted him up the IL hitting charts. His .364 average through the first 46 games of the season is an astounding 35 points better than any other player in the International League. Feliciano also ranks sixth in the IL with 51 hits and second with his .419 on-base percentage.
MURPHY JOINS BISONS: The International League's top offense got another boost on Monday as INF Daniel Murphy was optioned to the club from the Mets. Murphy began the season on New York's disabled list with a grade 1 sprain of the MCL in his right knee, but collected eight hits in a three-game rehab stint with Single-A St. Lucie last week to prove he's ready. Murphy led the New York Mets last season with 155 games played and 12 home runs. He went 1-4 with a run scored in his Bisons debut on Tuesday.
CHARLOTTE KNIGHTS www.CharlotteKnights.com
AQUINO SCORELESS APPEARANCES: Knights RHP Greg Aquino has made his six straight scoreless relief appearances. Aquino pitched 1.0 inning on Monday night allowing no runs and no hits. Over his last six games Aquino has pitched 5.1 innings allowing just one hit and has earned three saves. The right-hander has served as the primary set-up man for Knights closer Ryan Braun and has compiled 18 strikeouts in 17 games.
BACK TO BACK HOME SERIES WINS: The Knights are starting to get their swagger back at home as they have taken three out of four in their last two home series. The Knights most recently won a four game series against the IL West leading Columbus Clippers at Knights Stadium. In their previous home series Charlotte defeated the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in three out of four games. The only game the Knights lost against Lehigh Valley was when the IronPigs rallied in the 9th inning to get the win.
HUDSON & TORRES DEALING: Two of the top strikeout pitchers in the IL are in the Knights starting rotation. RHP Daniel Hudson and RHP Carlos Torres both have 59 strikeouts this season which ties them for the third most in the League. Hudson had 11 strikeouts in his last outing on 5/23 vs. Columbus. At one point in the start he struck out 8 straight Clippers hitters. Torres is off to another strong strikeout campaign after finishing third in strikeouts in 2009 with 130.
COLUMBUS CLIPPERS www.ClippersBaseball.com
SECOND CHOICE: With the departure of Jason Donald (37 starts batting 2nd in the lineup) on 5/18, Brian Bixler has moved into the two-hole. In seven starts batting 2nd (2nd most on the team), he has hit .364 (12-33) with 4 RBI, compared to .250 (18-72) elsewhere in the lineup.
SANTANA STAYS HOT: Carlos Santana hammered his 5th homer of the month on Tuesday, driving in his 20th run in May. He now has back to back months with 5 HR and 20 RBI. Santana is the first Clipper since Andy Marte to have consecutive months with at least 20 RBI (6/09-22, 7/09-24).Â
THE HERRMANNATOR: Frank Herrmann threw a season high 2.2 innings on Monday night to push his shutout streak to 23.0 innings. Herrmann has not allowed a run since his first outing of the season (4/8 vs. Indianapolis), giving up 13 hits and six walks in his last 15 appearances. He has seven games of at least 2.0 IP during the stretch.
PIG ROAST: Columbus welcomes Lehigh Valley to Huntington Park tonight for the first of four games. The Clippers have never lost to the IronPigs in Huntington Park
(4-0) and have won seven straight meetings in Columbus (last, and only, Lehigh Valley win in Columbus was on 5/1/08 in the first ever meeting between the two teams).
DURHAM BULLS www.DurhamBulls.com
NO NO-NO: Jeremy Hellickson made a strong bid this week for Durham's second no-hitter since the Bulls went to Triple-A in 1998. On Monday Hellickson pitched six perfect innings before a leadoff walk in the seventh. He then surrendered a leadoff single to start the eighth to Aaron Bates. It was the only hit Pawtucket got off Hellickson and Winston Abreu in a 1-0 Bulls win. Current Colorado Rockie-Jason Hammel and Juan Salas combined for the only Bulls Triple-A no-hitter against Columbus on
July 16, 2006 at the DBAP.
DAN DOING IT: Dan Johnson has been one of the top hitters in the International League over the first six weeks. He is now tied for the IL lead in homers with 14 after three in the last series against Pawtucket. He is in the top three in the IL in homers, RBI, total bases, slugging and on-base percentage. Johnson tied a Bulls Triple-A record in a suspended game against Pawtucket played Saturday and Sunday. He hit two homers and had eight RBI in an 18-1 win. Only Chris Richard, with a pair of grand slams a year ago, had driven in eight runs at the DBAP in a single game. Durham's overall Triple-A mark occurred when Scott McClain drove in nine runs in a game at Indianapolis in 1998.
SERIES SUCCESS: Before taking three of four against Pawtucket this week, Durham had not won a series in the month of May. Durham swept Charlotte in a four-game series from April 19-22. Durham is 11-12 in the month of May after a 15-8 April. Despite that, the Bulls have a 5.5 game lead over Norfolk and Gwinnett entering action tonight against Rochester.
CLOSE CALL: Durham has outscored the opposition by an unbelievable 75 runs (261-186) over the first 46 games of the season. The reason the Bulls are only six over .500 is that the team has gone 8-10 in games decided by one or two runs. Before a 1-0 win on Monday, Durham had lost eight straight close games, with the last victory coming on April 23, 5-4 over Gwinnett.
GWINNETT BRAVES www.GwinnettBraves.com
MILESTONE WIN: May 23's 6-3 win over Indianapolis marked the 100th win for the Gwinnett Braves in the franchise's short history. The G-Braves, who went 81-63 in their Inaugural Season of 2009, were stuck at 99 wins since 5/18. The Braves nearly had to wait another game for the 100 mark, but third baseman Wes Timmons singled the go-ahead run in the 9th inning in Sunday afternoon's win.
KIMBREL'S FIRST WIN: In his first appearance back with Gwinnett (where he started the 2010 season), Braves closer Craig Kimbrel notched a ... win? His 2.0 IP scoreless outing earned Kimbrel, recently re-assigned from Atlanta (MLB), the first Triple-A win of his career.
GO-GO BLANCO: G-Braves OF Gregor Blanco - who was 12-for-33 (.364) with 7 runs, 5 doubles, 3 RBI and a SB during his current 9-game hitting streak - was recalled by Atlanta (MLB) on Tuesday. Blanco, who also leads the IL with 7 sacrifice hits, takes the spot of another recent G-Braves outfielder in Brent Clevlen. Promoted to Atlanta on 5/15, Clevlen was 1-for-4 with 2 runs for the Braves before being placed on the DL today with a sprained right toe.
FOREVER YOUNG: G-Braves OF/2B Matt Young broke out of a 1-for-27 slump at the dish (from 5/6-5/17) with a 2-for-4 game on 5/18 and hasn't looked back since. He is on a season-best 8-game hitting streak since the beginning of the Columbus series (from 5/18-present), and has gone 15-for-26 (.577) overall. During the current stretch, Young also has 6 runs, four doubles, a triple, 4 RBI and a stolen base.
INDIANAPOLIS INDIANS www.IndyIndians.com
GETTING HIS SHOT: Indians' INF/OF Neil Walker, who was hitting .321 (54-for-168) with 18 doubles, two triples, six home runs and 26 RBI in 43 games, was promoted to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday, May 25 after former Tribe 1B Steve Pearce, was placed on the 15-day disabled list. In his first game with the Pirates on the May 25, the switch- hitting slugger drove in the only run against Cincinnati Reds' starter Mike Leake, with an RBI double in the eighth inning, before former Tribe catcher Ryan Doumit gave the Bucs the 2-1 win with a solo home run in the ninth. Walker then posted the first multi-hit effort of his Major League career on Wednesday when he collected two of the Pirates six base hits in their 4-0 loss to the Reds. Before his promotion, Walker ranked first in the International League in doubles, second in extra base hits (26) and total bases (94), third in hits (54), fourth in slugging percentage (.560) and sixth in batting average. Walker also ranked second in slugging percentage (.595) and third in OPS (.982) for the month of May among all IL hitters.
MASHING IN MAY: Tribe C Erik Kratz is hitting an impressive .417 (20-for-48) with seven runs scored, seven doubles, three home runs and 13 RBI in 13 contests during the month of May. The right-handed slugger has also posted a ridiculous .792 slugging percentage during the season's second month, which. if he had collected enough at-bats to qualify, would be the best mark in all of professional baseball during the month, ranking just ahead of Double-A Northwest Arkansas' Mike Moustakas (.784) and the Boston Red Sox' Kevin Youkilis (.764). At the conclusion of the month of April, Kratz was hitting .200 (7-for-35) and was in the midst of a 2-for-14 slide, before the Pennsylvania native kicked off the month of May with at least one hit in each of the first seven games in which he played. The catcher has recorded a hit in 11 of his 13 May starts and has collected multiple hits in six contests during that span to see his batting average jump to .325 (27-for-83) on the season. The Tribe's other catcher has been great on the defensive side. C Luke Carlin leads all International League backstops with a .409 caught stealing percentage this season. Carlin has thrown out nine of 22 would-be base stealers this season and his plus-.400 caught stealing percentage puts him in the company of only one other catcher - Gwinnett's Clint Sammons (8-for-20, .400), who is the only other catcher in the IL to have posted a caught stealing percentage of .400 or better in the IL this season.
LIGHTS OUT RELIEF: After turning in a 5.66 ERA in the month of April, the Tribe bullpen has posted spectacular numbers thus far in the month of May. Indians' relievers have logged a 2.63 ERA (19 ER in 65.0 IP) and have converted eight of nine save opportunities while also recording 46 strikeouts over 65.0 innings pitched. RHP Vinnie Chulk (9.0 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 8 SO), RHP Steven Jackson (13.0 IP, 12 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 SO) and LHP Justin Thomas (11.1 IP,
4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 9 SO) have paced the Tribe 'pen in May as Chulk has posted a 1.00 ERA and an 8 to 2 strikeout to walk ratio in eight games, Jackson has turned a 1-0 record and 2.08 ERA over nine games, and Thomas has gone 1-0 with a 0.79 ERA and 9 to 2 strikeout to walk ratio over eight appearances.
TAKING A CHANCE: Indians 3B Pedro Alvarez and OF Jose Tabata have seen the most action in the International League at each of their respective positions this season. Although most of the attention given to Alvarez focuses on his offensive efforts - as evidenced by his 10 home runs (tied for 3rd-best in the International League) and his 42 RBI (2nd-best in the IL) - the Indians' slugger has also seen a lot of action defensively at the hot corner this season as he has a League-high 116 total chances and 93 assists and an IL third baseman high 42 games played. Similarly, Tabata, who is tied for the IL lead in hits (58), runs (34) and stolen bases (19) and ranks fourth in batting average (.326) has also seen more action in the outfield than any other player, as he is the only outfielder in the IL with more than 100 putouts (102) and is tied with Buffalo's Jason Pridie for the most total chances (103).
LEHIGH VALLEY IRONPIGS www.IronPigsBaseball.com
PITCHING FITS!: LHV's staff is up to 2nd in the IL in ERA (3.50). Ranked 8th on 5/2, the staff has a 2.90 (198 IP, 64 ER) in the last 21 G. In the last 10 GS, Pigs starters are 4-3 with a more impressive 2.53 ERA (57.0 IP, 16 ER) with 6 QS. Over the past 16 G, the bullpen has combined to go 2-2, 4 SV, 2.00 ERA (54.0 IP, 12 ER).
DO THE MATH!: RHP Scott Mathieson -- now 8-for-8 in save opportunities -- has allowed just 1 R in his last 13 G (16.0 IP, 10 H, 2, BB, 21 K). On 5/16, he snapped his 8-G, 9.0-IP scoreless streak -- during which time he issued 0 BB. He started this season with 7.0 scoreless innings in 4 G (1-0, SV, 0.00) and has allowed just 2 R in his first 15 G (19.2 IP, 6-6 in SV opportunities).
WHO (ELSE) IS HOT: INF Neil Sellers has hit safely in 3 of his last 4 G (6-11, 3 2B, 4 RBI) and in 7 of 9 G (10-34, .294-0-4, 4 2B)...... OF John Mayberry has had 3 straight multi-hit G (6-12, .500-1-2)...... 3B Cody Ransom is tied for 3rd in the IL with 10 HR...... OF Dewayne Wise has hit safely in 13 of his last 17 GS (20-67, .299-2-3, 9 2B, 2 3B). He has 7 2B in his last 13 G and leads LHV with 20 extra-base hits (11 2B, 5 3B, 4 HR)...... In his IL career (7/7/09-pres.), RHP Nate Bump is now an impressive 11-3, 2.40 in 19 GS (124 IP, 33 ER)...... RHP Brandon Duckworth is 1-0, 1.80 and averaging 10.8 SO/9. In addition, he's allowed just 2 extra-base hits in 2010 (88 AB)...... RHP Ryan Vogelsong has not been scored upon in 3 G since moving to pen (0-0, 6 IP)...... LHP Mike Zagurski leads IL relievers in K/9 at 13.5 (30 K in
20.0 IP).
LOUISVILLE BATS www.BatsBaseball.com
HEATING UP:Â Needless to say, the Bats are heating up. With their 3-1 win Tuesday night, they have now won seven of their last nine. Since their nine-game losing streak (4/23-5/1) they have compiled a record of 14-8 and in their last 19 games they are 13-6. Sunday night's win over Scranton/Wilkes-Barre also got them to .500 (10-10) at home for the first time since they were 1-1. Through their first 11 games at home they were 3-8, but since then they have gone 8-3 to currently even their record at LSF at 11-11. At 21-25, the Bats are just four games under for the first time since they were 7-11 on 4/26, which was during their 9-game losing streak.
MOVING NORTHWARD:Â After suffering a four-game sweep at SWB, losing three of four at Buffalo and then losing the series opener to Rochester, the Bats began play against the IL North with a 1-8 record. After taking three of four from SWB this week, the Bats are 13-6 in their 19 games against the North since the terrible start. Tuesday's game also ended a streak of 28 consecutive games against the IL North in which the Bats finished 14-14.
FRAZIER TURNING THE CORNER: IF Todd Frazier showed some early season struggles at the plate, but lately he has been on fire. During a four-game series with SWB, Frazier hit .429 (6-14) with three home runs and four RBI. Coming into the SWB series, Frazier's average was only.187 on the season. He has now upped his average 25 points to .212. The Bats third baseman went deep twice on Sunday afternoon, becoming the first Bat to hit multiple homers in a game this season. Also on Sunday, Frazier and catcher Wilkin Castillo connected for back-to-back home runs in the fourth inning, becoming the first Bats duo to accomplish this feat in 2010. The last time a pair of Bats went back-to-back came on 5/26 of last year when Danny Dorn and Luis Bolivar circled the bases vs. Syracuse. Frazier has been a lot more comfortable at the plate at Louisville Slugger Field. At home, he is hitting .275 (19-69) with six home runs and 10 RBI. On the road, Frazier is batting just .147 (10-68) with no homers and five RBI. Â
ERNIE GETS THE CALL: On Monday, RHP Enerio Del Rosario was recalled by the Cincinnati Reds to take the roster spot of RHP Homer Bailey, who went on the DL with right shoulder inflammation. Prior to his promotion, Del Rosario led all Bats pitchers in appearances and is the only pitcher with an ERA under 2.00 (1.46). He has thrown 24.2 innings, surrendered 20 hits, and allowed only 4 runs. He has walked four and struck out 17. In the month of May, Del Rosario did not allow a single run. This is a span of 11 appearances and 12 innings of six-hit baseball. Recently he had been thrown into the closer's role and has picked up three saves in his last three outings, all at Lehigh Valley. Del Rosario made his MLB debut Monday night as the Reds hosted Pittsburgh. He entered in the middle of the seventh and struck out former Indianapolis Indian Andrew McCutchen. However, McCutchen reached first as Ryan Hanigan dropped the ball on the swinging strike. That would be the only batter that Del Rosario would face, so he has officially thrown 0.0 innings, but has one strikeout.
NORFOLK TIDES www.NorfolkTides.com
MAKING THEIR PITCH: Starting pitchers Chris Tillman and Jake Arrieta have been outstanding through the first two months of the season. The pair are tied for the organizational lead with five wins, while Arrieta leads O's minor leaguers with 55 strikeouts and a 1.86 ERA and Tillman is second with 47 strikeouts and a 3.12 ERA. Arrieta's 1.86 ERA leads the IL, and the 24-year-old also ranks among IL leaders in innings pitched (1st, 63.0) and batting average against (.181).
FIGUERING IT OUT QUICKLY: Tides outfielder Danny Figueroa was promoted to Norfolk from Double-A Bowie Tuesday and wasted no time in getting himself acclimated to International League pitching. In his second at-bat, Figueroa clubbed an opposite field two-run homer, his first hit and RBI at the Triple-A level. The home run was all the offense Norfolk needed in their 2-1 win over Rochester. Danny is the twin brother of Paco Figueroa, who is also on Norfolk's roster. Making the moment all the better was that the home run came against the Rochester Red Wings - top affiliate of the Twins.
HOMECOMING OF SORTS: The Tides travel to Pawtucket Thursday for the start of a four-game series with the Red Sox, and Norfolk's coaching staff will be quite familiar with the area. Tides manager Gary Allenson won the 1978 International League MVP while playing for Pawtucket in 1978, while pitching coach Mike Griffin served as the PawSox pitching coach from 2003-2007. In addition to the PawSox connection, Norfolk hitting coach Richie Hebner is originally from Boston and served as the Red Sox hitting coach from 1989-1991.
PAWTUCKET RED SOX www.PawSox.com
OFFENSIVE OFFENSE: Pawtucket has lost 6 of their last 7 games and 7 of 9 since a 6-game winning streak ended on May 17. The recent skid can be traced to an offensive slump as the Sox have scored 2 runs or less in 6 of their last 7 games (1-6 in those) and have scored a total of only 12 runs in those 7 games (with 3 of those runs coming too little, too late in the top of the 9th-inning on Tuesday in an 8-5 loss at Durham). During this stretch (since May 19), the Sox are hitting just .174 (37-for-213) as their team batting average has fallen from .261 on May 18 (equaling their season-high) to their current .248 (lowest since May 6 at .244).
STRANGE BUT TRUE: The old saying "save some runs for the next game" certainly applied this past Sunday at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park as the Pawtucket Red Sox were outscored 18-2 in two games against the Durham Bulls Sunday night but somehow, someway came out with one victory and one loss. The loss was a resounding defeat that actually started on Saturday night before rains suspended the game with the Sox trailing the Bulls, 5-0 in the bottom of the 2nd-inning. When play resumed late Sunday afternoon, Durham piled on the runs and ran away with an 18-1 victory. The regularly scheduled game was a completely different story. Not so much for the PawSox offense as Pawtucket again mustered just one run in the game, but this time PawSox pitchers did the job and shutout Durham for a 1-0 win. So the Sox were out-scored 18-2, out-hit 19-10, out-rebounded (sorry wrong sport), but nonetheless came out even where it really mattered - with a win and a loss on the evening.
HOARD GETS CALL TO THE NFL: PawSox Radio Broadcaster Dan Hoard has been named as the television play-by-play announcer for the Cincinnati Bengals preseason. Hoard, 46, will make his NFL debut on Channel 12 in Cincinnati teaming with Hall of Fame left tackle Anthony Munoz who will be his color analyst for three Bengals preseason games. The games take place on August 15 vs. Denver (Tim Tebow's probable pro debut), August 28 in Buffalo, and September 2 at Indianapolis. Dan will miss just three PawSox games - each on the above dates. "Dan is a highly-regarded announcer and we are very excited to have him join our telecasts," said Vince Cicero, the Bengals director of corporate sales and marketing. "He has great respect and recognition in our area as a knowledgeable broadcaster with a comfortable, no-nonsense style."
ROCHESTER RED WINGS www.RedWingsBaseball.com
A "SERIES" PROBLEM: Through the first 13 series this season Rochester is without a series win (0-5-8 record). Rochester has split eight of the 13 series they've played and been swept twice (two-game series at Scranton/WB April 12 & 13 and four-game series vs. Syracuse May 18-21). Rochester has lost their last 17 series with their last series win coming August 28-30, 2009 when they took two of three from Buffalo at Frontier Field.
IT'S NOT OVER YET: The Red Wings might be 12 games under .500 at 17-28, but it doesn't mean the season is lost. In 1986 Rochester started the season going 17-22 then they went on a tear, winning 50 of their next 78 games. The 1986 team made the Governors' Cup playoffs and lost in the finals to Richmond in five games.
WHAT A RELIEF: The Red Wings bullpen has done a nice job the last 10 games, going 2-1 with one save and a 1.56 ERA. In 34.2 innings of work, the bullpen has allowed just seven runs (six earned) on 17 hits while walking 19 and striking out 28.
SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE YANKEES www.SWBYankees.com
SAVING SCRANTON: Jonathan Albaladejo continues to be one of the most dominant closers in the International League and in team history. He currently leads the IL in saves with 14 - in 14 opportunities. Dating back to last season he has converted 18 consecutive save opportunities. In the 18 saves, he has posted a 0.90 ERA and struck out 23 in 20 innings. He now has 25 saves in his Scranton/Wilkes-Barre career, placing him in a 5th place tie with Bronson Heflin. He only trails Jay Baller (39), Chuck Ricci (31), Todd Frohwirth (28) and Jim Crowell (27).
ROAD WORK: At first glance, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's 11-11 road record isn't anything to get excited about until you look at what the rest of the International League is doing away from home. Only two teams in the League have a winning record on the road. At 15-10, Columbus is the best team away from home in the IL and Toledo has the second best road record in the League at two games over .500 with a 12-10 mark. The Yankees along with Durham, Indianapolis and Syracuse are all at .500 while the remaining nine teams in the League have a losing road record.
WORKING BACK TO THE BIGS: The Yankees are hoping that everything is A-OK with Curtis Granderson who is working on coming back from a groin injury suffered at Yankee Stadium on May 1st. Granderson was placed on the 15 Day DL on May 2nd and is expected to be with the Yankees at least through the first game of SWB's doubleheader on Thursday against Syracuse at PNC Field. The outfielder who came to New York in a December '09 trade involving seven players and three teams has been rotating between designated hitter and outfield in every other game. While in the Tigers system, Granderson's manager in 2004 while with Double-A Erie of the Eastern League was current Louisville Manager Rick Sweet.
YANKEES TO FACE STRASBURG: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre faced the minors' top left-handed pitching prospect earlier in the season at PNC Field when they squared off against Louisville's Aroldis Chapman on April 28th. Saturday night in Syracuse, the Yankees will face the top right-handed pitching prospect and top pitching prospect overall in Steven Strasburg in the opening game of a two-game series at Alliance Bank Stadium.Â
SYRACUSE CHIEFS www.SyracuseChiefs.com
TWO TIMERS: After their second scheduled off day of the season, the Chiefs will take on the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees for a pair of seven-inning games tonight. Syracuse and SWB were rained out on April 23. It's the second doubleheader of the season for the Chiefs, but the first pair of seven-inning games. The Chiefs swept a split doubleheader at Rochester on May 19.
THREE FOR ALL: With Carlos Maldonado's ascent to the big leagues, Jamie Burke started his first game with the Chiefs Tuesday night. At this point, at least three players have started at each fielding position for Syracuse.
EARLY DECISION: As play begins today, the Chiefs lead SWB by a half game and Buffalo by a game for the lead in the North Division. Syracuse plays nine straight games starting this evening against the Yankees and Bisons. After that stretch, the Chiefs step outside the division for 22 straight games against interdivision competition.
TOLEDO MUD HENS www.MudHens.com
STEPHEN WHO?: The Mud Hens were the first International League team to score off of Stephen Strasburg, recording two runs - one earned - on five hits against the highly touted prospect.
IT ALL COMES DOWN TO PITCHING: In Toledo's last 10 games, Hen pitchers have allowed three runs or fewer seven times, including a pair of shutouts (one each vs. Indianapolis and Durham). During the stretch, the Mud Hens are 8-2.
HEN EGGS: RHP Jay Sborz is third in the League with nine saves...... RHP Casey Fien has compiled a 1.27 ERA (21.2 IP/3 ER) over his last 15 outings...... RHP Robbie Weinhardt has not allowed a run over his last 11 outings, tossing 15.0 scoreless innings...... LHP Daniel Schlereth has fanned 18 batters in his last 12 innings pitched.
HAPPY DAYS: The Mud Hens finally lost on a Monday, but remain unbeaten on Tuesdays (7-0).
