Quad City Steamwheelers News Release

DAVENPORT, Iowa – It has been a long time coming. Since the announcement was first made on January 14, 2003, Quad City Steamwheelers head coach Rich Ingold has waited numerous days to be inducted into the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Athletic Hall of Fame on September 27, 2003.

Ingold initially started out at the University of South Carolina playing for the Gamecocks in 1981. He then transferred to IUP due to a coaching change. He earned all-American Honorable Mention honors as a senior in 1985 as well as team MVP. He also earned the Thomas E. Westhoff Award in 1983, which is given to the most outstanding offensive player at IUP.

As a senior in 1985, he was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) player of the year, as well as the ECAC (East Coast Athletic Conference) Division II player of the year.

Ingold's name still peppers the Indians record books holding numerous single game, season and career records, including the single game records for completions and yards. It was 1985 against Lehigh when Ingold was 34-of-49 for 460 yards, throwing four touchdowns en route to setting the records.

Ingold was then brought on as the quarterback and receivers coach in 1986 under head coach Frank Cignetti where he coached for eight years.

"To follow guys like Jim Haslett (current New Orleans Saints head coach), Frank Cignetti (IUP head coach) and Jack Henry (line coach for the Saints) into IUP's Hall of Fame is truly an honor.

"I respect these men a great deal. Frank Cignetti was very influential in my playing and coaching career. I am very fortunate to have had outstanding coaches and teammates at IUP," Ingold said.

He will be introduced at halftime of the IUP vs. Millersville game on September 27th with a banquet preceding the night before.

"I have great memories of my experience at IUP as a student, player and coach.
