Columbia Inferno News Release
COLUMBIA-- The Columbia Inferno have selected Joe Schachner to become the team's equipment manager, head coach and assistant general manager Troy Mann announced today. Schachner, 28, fills the post left vacant when former equipment manager Mike Burkhead took a similar position with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League. Schachner, a native of Columbia, had spent the last three seasons as the Inferno's assistant equipment manager, working one year under Burkhead and two more under current Dallas Stars' assistant equipment manager Dennis Soetaert.
"Joe definitely deserves the opportunity, especially working with two outstanding equipment managers in Mike and Dennis. He's certainly ready," Mann said. "I firmly believe that it's important as an organization to promote good people from within."
Schachner has worked with the Inferno in a myriad of capacities since the team's inception in 2000. He is a graduate of the Richard Winn Academy in Winnsboro, and is a licensed massage therapist with certification from the South Carolina Massage and Esthetics Institute.
Mann also announced that Dave Marron would become assistant equipment manager for the 2007-08 season. Marron is pursuing a degree in sports and entertainment management from the University of South Carolina, and worked as a game-night staffer in the game operations department last season.
