INDvSTL: Match Preview & Roster Update

July 11, 2020 - United Soccer League Championship (USL) - Saint Louis FC News Release

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Saint Louis FC announced an update to the match day squad for tonight's game against Indy Eleven scheduled to kick off at 6:00 p.m. CT.

Defender Phanuel Kavita woke up this morning with an elevated temperature. Following consultation with USL HQ and team health officials, he was removed from the team environment and sent back to St. Louis to isolate out of an abundance of caution.

Forward Kyle Greig withdrew himself from the team and will return to St. Louis as he and his wife are expecting their second child.

"We have been diligent to follow all local and USL recommended health guidelines and felt it was the right decision to remove Phanuel from the team to isolate as a precaution," said STLFC Club President Patrick Barry. "We fully understand and respect Kyle's decision to remove himself and we look forward to having him and Phanuel back in the team environment as soon as possible."

Saint Louis FC travels to face Indy Eleven in the first game back for both clubs following the season hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Saint Louis FC recorded a 4-1 win over The Miami FC in the season opener on March 7th while Indy Eleven won 4-2 over Memphis 901 FC with former USMNT goalkeeper Tim Howard in the opposition net. The teams will play against each other a total of four times in a difficult Group E with fellow clubs Louisville City FC and Sporting KC II in USL's new competition structure. The teams have only faced off twice previously with both meetings coming in the 2019 regular season. Saint Louis FC won their 2019 home opener 2-1 while Indy Eleven avenged the return leg with a 2-1 win in August 2019.
