
Indiana Fever Forward Tamika Catchings Named WNBA Player of the Week

NEW YORK, June 21 â Tamika Catchings of the Indiana Fever was named the WNBA Player of the Week for games played Monday, June 14 through Sunday, June 20.
Catchings averaged 21.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 4.0 steals and 36.5 minutes as the Fever posted a perfect 2-0 record on the week. Catchings is currently ranked in the top 10 in five different categories, averaging 17.3 points (7th), 2.60 steals (1st), 6.9 rebounds (10th), 4.0 assists (10th) and 1.60 blocked shots (6th) and has helped the Fever to its best start ever after 10 games (6-4).
She began her week by posting 18 points, seven assists, five steals and five rebounds in Indiana's 63-50 victory over Sacramento on June 16. Three days later versus New York she posted her first double-double of the season, scoring 25 points and grabbing 12 rebounds and added three assists, three steals and knocked down four three-pointers in the Fever's 70-65 victory over the Liberty.
Other candidates for WNBA Player of the Week were Charlotte's Allison Feaster, Connecticut's Nykesha Sales, Detroit's Swin Cash, Houston's Sheryl Swoopes, Los Angeles' Lisa Leslie, Phoenix's Diana Taurasi, Sacramento's Yolanda Griffith, San Antonio's Adrienne Goodson, Seattle's Lauren Jackson and Washington's Chamique Holdsclaw.
The WNBA began its much-anticipated eighth season with ratings for ABC's first three telecasts up 29 percent from a year ago. The season-opening telecast featuring the Phoenix Mercury at the Connecticut Sun was the highest rated WNBA game (regular season or playoffs) ever on ABC.
