Topeka Pilots News Release
The Runners were at it again after another successful weekend on the ice. Reading, getting fit, learning to skate, a popcorn party, and a Coach's Show all in one day as the RoadRunners proved once again that being champions means more than scoring on the ice, it also means working hard to make Topeka a better place.
Williams Science and Fine Arts Magnet School sold a lot of tickets to last Saturday's Super Hero Night, helping to raise money for their impressive lab programs. As a reward, the top sellers were treated to a popcorn party with Runners players during school on Tuesday. Johnny Walker, Marcus Russell, Luca Maver, and Juho Niku were on hand to congratulate the students on a job well done and to enjoy some delicious popcorn. Meanwhile, at Sheldon Head Start, Jack Nickels, Sami Tavernier, Ryan O'Connor, Marshall Bowery, Yu Hikosaka, Jeff Makowski, and Quinn Preston each read a book to class before heading out to the playground for some much needed recreation. Makowski got quite a workout pushing kids on the swings while Preston, Nickels, and Tavernier tested their basketball skills against a group of little competitors. O'Connor, Bowery, and Hikosaka spent their time playing in the dirt with toys and shovels. Later on, O'Connor and Bowery were joined by Marcus Russell at Shawnee Heights Elementary for Runners Get Fit. Another fun floor hockey battle ensued resulting in Team O'Connor's first win of the season. Each kid got a Spectacle gift bag and a gift card from Subway.
That evening, the boys and coaches hosted another session of the Runners Learn 2 Skate Program at Landon Arena. Over 50 children furthered their skating education with the help of the team, Coach Clark, and Equipment Manager Bob Pope. Coach Kamrass, meanwhile, was at Skinny's Sports Bar & Grill for the Runners Coach's Show. Game MC Chris Engesser filled in for Arch Ecker, updating fans on the coming regular season finale next weekend as well as the Car Giveaway and $10k Home Remodel Contest. The coach talked about last weekend's series win over Odessa and looked ahead to the battle against Wichita Falls this Friday and Saturday. Finally, forward Andrew Hart joined the show for a back and forth with the coach and fans. Catch all the action from Tuesday'sCoach's Show on the RoadRunners YouTube page.
