In a 'Snap', Hunter Returns

GARY, Indiana (November 8, 2005) - The Gary Steelheads announced today the signing of high-scoring guard Jimmie "Snap" Hunter, pending league approval.

The 6-foot-5 Hunter played with the Steelheads during the 2004-05 season, leading the team in scoring with a 20.8 ppg. average and 3.8 apg. in 19 games. On February 1st, 2005, he scored a single-game franchise record 48 points at Rockford. He also poured in a team record 20 field goals in the same game.

Hunter was one of four Steelheads named to play in the 2004-05 CBA All-Star Game, which was played at the Genesis Center. In early February of 2005, he signed with Sebastiani Rieti of the Italian League, where he averaged 17.8 ppg. and 5.2 rpg. in 16 games. "Snap" went to camp with the Indiana Pacers and was released him prior to the NBA season.

Hunter established himself as a CBA standout during the 2003-04 season, when he averaged 20.3 ppg., 4.9 rpg. and 4.2 apg. in 48 games with the Rockford Lightning. He competed in the CBA All-Star Game, winning the three-point shooting competition. The Lightning reached the CBA Quarterfinals that season.

During the summer of 2004, Hunter averaged 26.7 ppg. and 5.0 rpg. with the Adirondack Wildcats of the USBL. This earned him a spot on the All-USBL team. He then went to camp with the Cleveland Cavaliers, who released him prior to the 2004-05 season.

Hunter was NAIA Player of the Year at Life College in Georgia, leading the school to an NAIA championship in 2000. He hit the winning shot in the closing seconds of the championship game, earning him NAIA Tournament MVP honors that year as well. He was also MVP of four other tournaments in which Life College competed during his tenure.
