Imperials attend Mexican league meeting

May 2, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Palm Beach Imperials News Release

Aguascalientes, Mexico. In only their first season, the ABA Palm Beach Imperials are helping advance the league into the international basketball scene. Representatives from the team attended the annual meeting of the Mexican Basketball Association (LNBP) on behalf of the league on April 29-30. At the invitation of the LNBP President, Dr. Modesto Robledo, the Palm Beach Imperials met with league owners from the 24 teams and league sponsors. Attending on behalf of the ABA was Palm Beach Imperial president Dan Mangru.

During the meeting, Mangru brought new initiatives from the ABA to the LNBP as well as discussed the various strategic partnerships between both leagues to move onto the global basketball scene. "There are many opportunities for increased cooperation between both leagues. The LNBP is the premier league in Mexico that looks to play an exciting brand of basketball. This is exactly in line with the ABA so our strong relationship is a natural fit," stated Mangru.

Additional topics that were discussed included the LNBP playing games with basketball leagues all over Latin America. "The LNBP has a global vision of basketball. They are looking to organize games with all of the major leagues around Latin America. Coming from the ABA, where we have teams from Beijing, another from Mongolia, teams in Canada and Mexico, we understand the need to foster basketball on as a global vehicle - and appreciate being invited by Mexico to participate in their meeting," added Mangru.

The global vision of basketball has been spearheaded in the ABA by ABA co-owners Dick Tinkham and Joe Newman, ABA CEO. "We appreciate Dan's attending the meeting on behalf of the ABA. Dan represents the new breed of ABA owners - a deep interest in professional basketball combined with extraordinary business skills and experience, the perfect combination for success. Representatives from the LNBP recently attended our meeting in Indianapolis also. We are very pleased to be working together and will be making some exciting announcements between the two leagues as the spring and summer unfold."
