Impact Plays Portland on Friday
February 9, 2012 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Club de Foot Montreal News Release
CARSON, California - The Montreal Impact is set to play its second preseason game in California on Friday, against the Portland Timbers, at the Home Depot Center in Carson, at 1:30pm ET.
Impact head coach Jesse Marsch plans on using similar lineups against the Timbers as he did versus Houston last Wednesday. A third group of players will then play a 45-minute game against the LA Blues, which plays in the USL Pro league, North American third division.
"This will give us another chance to see where we are at right now, to put in place some things we have learned following the Houston game," said Marsch. "We want to improve our play against Portland and progress. The game against the LA Blues will give us a chance to look at the younger players on our roster."
"We're anxious to get back on the field and have another opportunity to play a high level game," added midfielder Justin Mapp. "Portland is a very athletic and talented team. We need to bring the same mentality from the first game and hopefully we can get a better result. We need to build from our first game."
The Impact plays the Timbers in preseason for the second year in a row, losing last year by a score of 1-0 in Casa Grande, Arizona.
Portland beat the LA Galaxy in its first game of the 2012 training camp by a score of 4-1, last Tuesday, at the Home Depot Center.
NEW OPPONENTS
Aside from the matchup against the LA Blues tomorrow, the Impact announced on Thursday that it will play another 45-minute game against Chivas USA (MLS) following the February 14 matchup versus the LA Galaxy.
In addition, the Impact will face off against UCLA on February 17, at 1pm ET and Ventura County Fusion, of the USL Premier Development League, at 3pm ET.
The Impact will kick off its inaugural season in the North American first division in 30 days, on Saturday, March 10, against Canadian rival Vancouver Whitecaps FC, at 6pm (ET), at BC Place in Vancouver. The team will then host its season opener at home the following Saturday, at Olympic Stadium, on March 17, against the Chicago Fire, at 2pm (ET).
Season tickets for 2012 are still available and can be purchased via the team's website at impactmontreal.com or by calling 514-328-3668. Individual tickets are available for the Olympic Stadium games via the Admission network.
