Illinois Piasa News Release

Pontoon Beach, IL, 9/12/13 - Illinois Piasa is excited to announce the signing of defender Denis Hamzabegovic. Denis was born in Vlasenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina and grew up in the St. Louis area where he played for Soldan High School. For the past several years Denis has been a mainstay for a local team, NK BIH. NK BIH, which is short for Nogometni Klub Bosna Hercegovina, plays in local tournaments and tournaments across North America. They have even traveled to compete in overseas in locales such as Italy, where two years ago they won the BIH Dijaspora Futsal Tournament.

Coach Montroy had the following to say about Denis, "Denis is an extremely technical player who can play target forward, midfield, or defense. I believe Denis will be one of the best two-way defenders in the PASL this season. Signing a player of Denis's caliber was very important to us as an organization. Our fans and fans of the PASL as a whole are going to be impressed with the skill level and passion that Mr. Hamzabegovic plays with."

"I've known Denis for several years. When I first met him he was primarily a goal scorer, but he has evolved and matured, becoming a skilled defender that can shut players down and quickly transition to the attack, and he can finish," said General Manager Matt Williams.

When asked what he thought about signing with Piasa, Denis had this to say, "I would like to thank Matt Williams and Doug Montroy for this opportunity. I am really happy that I signed for Illinois Piasa and I am looking forward to the season. I love playing indoor and have been playing it for years. Our fans will be surprised for the upcoming season and I know that we will do our best to win every game."
