Illinois Piasa News Release
PONTOON BEACH, ILLINOIS - April 8, 2014 - Illinois Piasa announced today that co-founder, co-owner, and longtime General Manager, Matt Williams, has sold his remaining interest in Illinois Piasa LLC, to Jose F. Delgado and The Field Sports Complex LLC (TFSC), effective immediately. The new ownership group plans to continue to grow throughout the region by competing at the highest level of professional indoor soccer.
"From the bottom of my heart, and on behalf of my family, I want to say thank you to everyone who supported Piasa over the years! I grew up a huge fan of indoor soccer in St. Louis and I feel blessed to have been a part of a sport I love, at the highest level. I'll never forget all the good times and great people." said former Illinois Piasa owner and GM Matt Williams. "We are at an exciting place in the evolution of indoor soccer. A renaissance, if you will. With the MISL gone, all of the best teams and players will be reunited in one top indoor league. Kudos to the PASL for staying the course and keeping our sport alive. Though my involvement with the "franchise formerly known as Piasa", is doubtful, please continue to support their efforts, as well as the efforts of your other local, small, sports franchises. Without the support of the community, they cannot exist."
"We want to thank Matt and Jim Williams for everything they have done to build the Piasa during the past seven seasons," said Jose Delgado of The Field Sports Complex ownership team. "The numerous sacrifices they have made has paved the way for us to build this organization into one of the premier indoor soccer organizations in the country."
As part of the acquisition, TFSC is exploring options to rebuild, restructure, and re-brand the team. The organization will be seeking suggestions to incorporate in the re-branding to create a club that is emblematic of the team's fan base. This will be similar to Major League Soccer side New York City FC in asking fans to submit their best logo design and possible naming ideas to The Field Sports Complex's Facebook page. Prizes for incorporated ideas include, but are not limited to, a family 4-pack to the team's 2014-2015 home opener.
"We want our loyal supporters to be the first people we reach out to when considering what the club could look like moving forward," said Delgado. "Without them, there is no team, so their feedback will truly shape the club's direction."
The new ownership group is also eager to strengthen ties in the community by forming an advisory board of local soccer community members and business leaders and increase marketing efforts for both the club and the complex.
