IHL names weekly award winners

ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Monday that Bloomington right wing Don Parsons has been named the National City IHL Forward of the Week, Bloomington defenseman Rod Aldoff has been named the Pepsi IHL Defenseman of the Week, Port Huron right wing Jamie Carroll has been named the Aquafina IHL Rookie of the Week and Bloomington goaltender Loic Lacasse has been named the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, February 17th, 2008.

Parsons finished the week scoring five goals, helping the PrairieThunder earn five out of eight points available last week. After not recording a point so far in February, Wednesday he scored the PrairieThunder's second goal in Fort Wayne. Saturday, Parsons continued his scoring tear with a hat trick in Muskgeon. He scored two power play goals and one even strength to push Bloomington to a 5-3 victory. Parsons also scored the third goal for the PrairieThunder Sunday in the 4-1 win over Fort Wayne. The Boston, Massachusetts native currently leads the PrairieThunder in goals (23), assists (24) and points (47).

Other players nominated for the National City IHL Forward of the Week include: Flint center Jason Cirone, Fort Wayne center Terry Marchant, Kalamazoo left wing Nick Bootland, Muskegon center Mark Cadotte and Port Huron forward Rich Hansen.

Aldoff becomes the second member of the PrairieThunder to earn the Defenseman of the Week honors. He recorded a total of four points in the four games played by Bloomington. Friday, he had an assist on the power play goal scored by Adam Edinger. Saturday, Aldoff scored a personal season-high three points in the 5-3 win over Muskegon. He dished out two more assists on the man advantage and scored an empty net goal with 23 seconds left. The Lethbridge, Alberta native has scored a total of 10 points (2g, 8a) since joining the PrairieThunder back in January.

Other defenseman nominated for the Pepsi IHL Defenseman of the Week include: Flint's Martin Ondrej, Fort Wayne's Guy Dupuis, Kalamazoo's Jordan Little, Muskegon's Dave Van Drunen and Port Huron's Derek Merlini.

Carroll continues to dominate the Icehawks rookies, putting up another three points (1g, 2a) last week. He scored the Icehawks first goal and assisted on the fourth in the 4-1 victory over Muskegon. Friday night, he assisted on Rich Hansen's game-tying goal in the 6-5 loss to Flint. Carroll is second in scoring among rookies with 49 points (20g, 29a). He also leads all rookies in shots on goal with 223. The Andover, Connecticut native has averaged a point per game in his last 13 games, scoring five goals and 10 assists.

Other players nominated for the Aquafina Rookie of the Week include: Bloomington forward Brent Clarke, Flint forward Justin DePretis, Fort Wayne center Mathieu Curadeau, Kalamazoo left wing Ryan Kindret and Muskegon forward Justin Rohr.

Lacasse wrapped up the week starting three out of four of the PrairieThunder's games played last week. He completed the week with a 1-1-0-1 record, a .926 save percentage and a 2.54 goals against average. Lacasse only allowed seven goals against in the 165 minutes played. The Granby, Quebec native currently leads all IHL goaltenders in saves with 880 and is third in minutes played with 1724:14.

Other goaltenders nominated for the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Week include: Flint's Matt Spezza, Fort Wayne's Kevin Reiter, Kalamazoo's Ron Vogel, Muskegon's Clayton Pool and Port Huron's Larry Sterling.
