IHL Announces Weekly Honors For Week Twenty-Three

ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Monday that Flint forward Jamie Schaafsma has been named the IHL Player of the Week, Fort Wayne forward Kaleigh Schrock has been named the IHL Rookie of the Week and Fort Wayne goaltender Nick Boucher has been named the IHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, March 21st, 2010.

Schaafsma wrapped up the week posting seven points in three games played. He scored one goal and added six assists to his totals, extending his point streak to four games. He has posted points in nine of his last 10 games, including four multi-point contests. Schaafsma scored the game-winning goal in Friday's 6-1 win in Bloomington, helping propel the Generals to get within five points of the PrairieThunder for the final playoff spot. The 27-year-old Chatham, Ontario native is currently second on the Generals roster in scoring with 54 points (24 goals, 30 assists). His 54 points also rank him 14th among IHL scoring leaders.

Other players nominated for the IHL Player of the Week include: Bloomington forward Brett Holmberg, Dayton forward A.J. MacLean, Fort Wayne center Colin Chaulk, Muskegon right wing Robin Bouchard, Port Huron right wing Mike Kinnie and Quad City right wing Patrick Levesque.

Schrock earns the rookie of the week honor for the second time this season. He compiled four points in four games last week, scoring three goals and adding one helper. He leads the Komets rookies in goals scored with 18 after scoring a goal in each of the first three games of the week. His one assist came on the game-winning goal Friday in the Komets 5-3 win over Quad City. The 25-year-old Fort Wayne, Indiana native is currently tied for 14th among all IHL rookies in scoring with 29 points (18 goals, 11 assists) in 63 games played so far this season.

Other players nominated for the IHL Rookie of the Week include: Bloomington forward Matt Woodard, Dayton forward Cory Couturier, Flint forward Matt Moffat, Muskegon defenseman Matt Krug, Port Huron defenseman Mike Gershon and Quad City left wing Obi Aduba.

Boucher completed the week with a 2-0-0-0 record, playing 120 minutes and stopping 74 of 77 shots. He posted a.961 save percentage and a 1.50 goals against average, only allowing three goals against. He stopped all 44 shots he faced from the Gems Sunday in Dayton to earn his second shutout of the season, extending his road winning streak to six straight. Boucher has won five of his last six games, giving up just one goal or less in three of those five wins. He celebrated his 100th Fort Wayne career game Wednesday with a 4-3 win over Port Huron. The 29-year-old Cobble Hill, British Columbia native is currently tied with teammate Tim Haun for the league's best save percentage (.922) and is second in goals against average with a 2.44.

Other goaltenders nominated for the IHL Goaltender of the Week include: Bloomington's Sebastian Dahm, Dayton Derek MacIntyre, Flint's Sergei Zvyagin, Muskegon's Sebastien Centomo, Port Huron's Adam Russo and Quad City's Jerad Kaufmann.
