Detroit Ignition News Release

(Southfield, Mich., March 14, 2008) - The Detroit Ignition (18-7) defeated the visiting Orlando Sharks (3-24) 18-2 tonight for the club's sixth straight victory. The win moved the Ignition a game ahead of the Milwaukee Wave (17-7) for first place in the Major Indoor Soccer League.

Former Ignition midfielder Miodrag Djerisilo scored Orlando's only points of the night just 14 seconds into the match, putting a two-point goal past Ignition goalkeeper Tomer Chencinski. Despite the quick setback, the Ignition went on to score 18 unanswered points on the Sharks in front of a sell-out crowd at Compuware Arena.

Jamar Beasley struck first for Detroit, scoring two points at 3:15 of the first with an assist from forward Hewerton Moreira. Ignition midfielder Ze Roberto netted a two-point tally at 8:50, and Kyt Selaidopoulos followed 13 seconds later with another two-point score for Detroit. Hewerton added a pair of two-pointers in the second quarter to put the Ignition up 10-2 going into the half. Selaidopoulos was credited with the assists on both goals.

Just over a minute into the third quarter, midfielder Doug Rice notched a two-point tally with an assist from Beasley, and buried another two-point shot, this time unassisted, at 4:40. Birmingham native Ryan Mack followed Rice's lead less than two minutes later, scoring two points off an assist from Vahid Assadpour. At 10:57 of the third, Hewerton scored his third goal of the night, a two-point tally with an assist from Droo Callahan to bring the final score to 18-2.

The Ignition will take on the California Cougars (9-16) on Saturday, March 22 in Stockton.
