
Ignition moves into first in MISL standings with 14-12 OT win

(Southfield, Mich., March 2, 2007) - The Detroit Ignition (14-9) moved into sole possession of first-place in the Major Indoor Soccer League standings with a 14-12 victory in overtime against the Milwaukee Wave (11-12) in front of 3,577, and the fifth consecutive sellout crowd, at Compuware Sports Arena in Plymouth, MI. The game-winning goal, a two-pointer, was scored just 25 seconds into the overtime period by midfielder Kyt Selaidopoulos. Forward Jamar Beasley extended his League lead in scoring with a six point performance off of three two-point goals for the Ignition. On Sunday, March, Detroit will head to Milwaukee for the final regular season meeting between the League's oldest and newest member clubs. Game time for Sunday is slated for 2:00 pm ET.
Wave rookie midfielder Marcio Leite started the night's scoring with a two-point goal at 4:13 of the opening frame of play to hand Milwaukee the early 2-0 advantage. It didn't take long for the Ignition to even the score at 2-2 with a two-point goal at 4:42 from Hewerton to close out the quarter's scoring. The goal was Hewerton's tenth of the season.
The Wave took control in the second quarter with a two-point goal off the restart from veteran defender Troy Dusosky to put Milwaukee in front 4-2 at 5:15. League-leading scorer Jamar Beasley tied the contest 4-4 for the Ignition going into halftime with a two-point power play goal, capitalizing on a Dusosky penalty at 6:36.
Milwaukee scored quickly with a two-point goal just 6 seconds into the third frame of play from a limping Todd Dusosky, his third point of the night, giving the Wave the 6-4 lead. Forward Giuliano Oliviero extended Milwaukee's lead to 8-4 with a two-point tally at 2:56. Hewerton registered his second goal of the evening for Detroit, a two-pointer, at 6:33 to cut the Wave lead down to 8-6. Johnny Torres was credited with the two-point Wave goal after Ignition defender Matt Johnson deflected the ball into his own net at 13:15, bringing the club's lead up to 10-6. Beasley responded quickly with his League-leading 31st goal of the season at 13:24 as the first-year club cut the Wave advantage to 10-8 at the end of the third quarter.
Beasley rounded out the hat trick with a two-point goal at 3:36 of the fourth quarter to even the contest at 10-10. Ricardinho handed the Ignition its first lead of the game with a two-point goal assisted by Hewerton at 6:58. Milwaukee responded with a two-pointer of their own, this time from Troy Dusosky at 8:45, tying the contest 12-12 at the end of regulation. Former Wave team member Kyt Selaidopoulos gave the Ignition the 14-12 victory with a two point goal off a pass from rookie Worteh Sampson just 25 seconds into the overtime period.
