October 26, 2007 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
Detroit Ignition News Release
(Southfield, Mich., October 26, 2007) - The Detroit Ignition has agreed to terms with two players, the club announced today. The Ignition has added midfielder Vahid Assadpour and defender Abraham Francois for the 2007-08 season. Per club policy, the financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Midfielder Vahid Assadpour was acquired by the Ignition as the fourth selection in the 2007 Amateur Draft. The University of Detroit graduate was a three-time All-Horizon League selection, and finished his senior season as the league co-leader in assists per game at 0.44.
"Vahid came into camp as one of our top college draft choices and he has not disappointed," Head Coach Mark Pulisic said. "His ability to fit right in with the current group of players is what impressed me most. He has picked up the indoor game faster than most, and his strengths include his technical skills and ability to execute in the attacking end at pace. I am looking for an immediate contribution from Vahid this season."
Veteran defender Abraham Francois was asked to attend the Ignition's invitation-only combine in September. In 2005, Francois scored two points in 18 games for the Toronto Lynx of the United Soccer League's First Division.
"Abraham will add depth to our defensive group, he has had a very good training camp and is getting stronger each day," Pulisic remarked. "He is a physical presence that will be looked upon to make it difficult for our oppositions target players."
The Detroit Ignition is a member club of the Major Indoor Soccer League, and begins the team's second season in November 2007 after advancing to the MISL Championship Finals during the 2006-07 season.
