Ignition Inks Coach To Multi-Year Contract Extension

(Southfield, Mich., May 31, 2007) - The Detroit Ignition and head coach Mark Pulisic have agreed to a two-year contract extension which will keep the Long Island native behind the team's bench through the 2008-09 season, Ignition President Greg Bibb announced Thursday. Pulisic, who received Major Indoor Soccer League Coach of the Year honors during the 2006-07 season, led the Ignition to a League-best 18-12 record and an appearance in the MISL Championship Series Final during the club's inaugural campaign. As per club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
"We are thrilled to offer Mark this well deserved contract extension," Bibb stated. "He has proven to be an outstanding coach in the Major Indoor Soccer League. By securing his services for the next few years, we are able to provide stability to our team operations as well as our soccer camp and clinic business. We look forward to working with Mark to continue to improve our team as we move toward the 2007-08 season and beyond."
A three-time 100-point scorer during his eight year indoor playing career (1991-99) with the now-defunct Harrisburg Heat, Pulisic became a fan-favorite for his blue collar playing style that helped him become one of the most affective target players in the game. Pulisic's 296 goals and 689 points solidified him as the Heat's all-time leading scorer at the time of his retirement, earning him a spot in the club's Hall of Fame.
"I am excited for the opportunity to make another run at a championship next season," Pulisic said. "Returning as head coach of the Ignition will give me an opportunity to build a strong foundation with both our players and the community. Professional indoor soccer in Southeast Michigan has proven to be a viable product and I am very proud to be a part of the sport's continued growth and development."
The Detroit Ignition is a member club of the Major Indoor Soccer League and finished the team's inaugural 2006-07 season with a League-best 18-12 record.
