Detroit Ignition News Release
(Plymouth, Mich., - January 25, 2009) - Another stellar night from goalkeeper Danny Waltman propelled the Detroit Ignition (5-2) to a 16-11 victory over the visiting New Jersey Ironmen (3-5). The win is the Ignition's fourteenth straight regular-season victory at home, and the fourth consecutive win this season. Waltman had 20 saves in the nets tonight, making this the fourth straight game the netminder has saved at least 20 of the shots he faced.
Detroit wasted no time kicking into gear, putting up an 8-0 lead on New Jersey with goals from Kyt Selaidopoulos, Josh Rife, Vahid Assadpour and Leo Gibson in the first two stanzas. The Ironmen notched their only goal of the half at 5:23 of the second, a three-pointer from Lucio Gonzaga.
The third quarter was action-packed, but even as the two teams traded goals the Ignition held onto a 14-9 lead going into the fourth. Assadpour's second goal of the night gave the Ignition 16, and despite a late goal from Frederico Moojen, the Ironmen couldn't make up the defecit and left Compuware with a 16-11 loss.
The Ignition will return on Sunday, February 8 to face the Milwaukee Wave at Compuware. Kick off is at 4:35 pm.
