WEEK SEVEN OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK -QB JUSTIN RUMMELL/FAIRBANKS GRIZZLIES
If the Bloomington Extreme were favorites coming into the game, then someone forgot to relay that message to Grizzlies Quarterback Justin Rummell. The signal caller led an aerial assault against the Extreme defenders while becoming the first player in IFL history to throw for over 300 yards in a game. He finished the night completing 20 of 33 passes for 301 yards and six touchdowns. He also becomes the first two-time winner of the Offense Player of the Week award.
WEEK SEVEN DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK -LB RICO BROOKS/ ABILENE RUFF RIDERS
The Stampede Express will be seeing the number 41 in their nightmares all this week. Brooks was a one man wrecking crew, and seemed to be involved in every defensive play as he helped the Ruff Riders upend the previously unbeaten Stampede Express. The linebacker had six solo tackles, five assists, one sack, one forced safety, three tackles for loss, one pass breakup, and one fumble recovery on the night. It is the second week in a row that a Ruff Riders defender has won this award.
WEEK SEVEN SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK-DB/KR COURTNEY GRIXBY/OMAHA BEEF
It sure helps when your special teams unit can also help provide your team points. In this case, it was the difference as Omaha brought down a feisty Roughnecks team 70-58. Grixby first returned a blocked field goal attempt 50 yards to the house for his first score of the night. Later in the game, he brought back a 57 yards kickoff return for a score. Grixby not only was a force of Special Teams, but he also played defense and offense catching one ball for 13 yards, and rushing once for 11 yards.
The season resumes Friday night, May 1, with Saginaw travelling to Muskegon for the first of an electrifying slate of IFL match-ups set for this weekend. Kickoff is 7:00pm. Follow all the action at www.goifl.com and on the B2 broadcasts www.b2livetv.com of each game all season long.
