August 25, 2016 - California League (CalL1)
Visalia Rawhide News Release
VISALIA, CA- The Visalia Rawhide along with the California League announce today IF Marty Herum has been named to the California League Post-Season All-Star team.
Herum, an undrafted free agent signee by Arizona in 2013 from the D3 University of Wisconsin - Whitewater, has excelled at all three levels in four seasons in the Diamondbacks Organization, earning Mid-Season All-Star nods in 2014 with the South Bend Silver Hawks (then the Class-A Midwest League Affiliate of Arizona) and again in 2015 while with the Kane County Cougars.
The 6'3," 214-pound River Falls, WS native is hitting .306 (104-for-340) in 86 games for Visalia, which is also good for sixth in the California League. Since his promotion to Visalia on May 10th of this year he has hit a career high eight home runs, 17 doubles while driving in 45, walking 18 times, striking out 60 times, stealing nine bases, which is also a career high and scoring 37 runs.
Being selected as the Utility Player for the California League Post-Season All-Star squad is recognition of the versatility Herum has shown since becoming a member of the Rawhide. The righty swinger has suited up in 59 games at first base and 29 over on the other side of the diamond at the hot corner for manager J.R House's first place club.
In his still young career Herum is a .294 hitter (361-for-1226) over four seasons and 315 games. Over three levels, including Rookie, Class-A Full Season and Class-A Advanced he has hit 54 doubles, 11 triples, 19 home runs while driving in 170, walking 66 times, stealing 17 bases and striking out 203 times.
Herum is the sole Visalia representative on the California League Post-Season roster after the 2015 Rawhide had two members selected as Post-Season All-Stars (LHP Anthony Banda and 2B Jamie Westbrook).
