Icerays Return To Ice With 3-0 Shutout Of Bucks
October 12, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
In an appetizer of the regular season, the Corpus Christi IceRays certainly wet the appetite for hockey in South Texas. In their lone exhibition game, the IceRays shut out the rival Laredo Bucks 3-0 in the Corpus Christi Caller-Times Best of the Best Exhibition Game on Saturday Night at the American Bank Center. The IceRays emerged victorious in their lone, pre-season game of the exhibition schedule in front of a raucous crowd of 6,259. The fans saw the return of hockey to Corpus Christi after an off-season that almost ended the IceRays run in the coastal bend. However, Saturday's crowd and performance showed that hockey is alive and well along the Gulf Coast.
Justin Quenneville, Patrick Steinmayr and Adam Powell each tallied for the IceRays, while Kris Tebbs and Dustin Traylen each stopped 13 shots for a combined 26 save shutout of the Bucks. The two rivals also combined for four fights in the contest, and had the largest pre-season crowd ever to attend an IceRays game on their feet throughout the night. The IceRays outshot the Bucks 30-26.
The Corpus Christi IceRays begin their 2008-2009 season on Saturday, October 18th when they host the Tulsa Oilers at 7:05pm at the American Bank Center. Individual game tickets are currently on sale for the 2008-2009 season.
