IceRays Lose to Texas in Season Finale 6-1

FRISCO, TX - Eric Purcell scored his team leading 22nd goal of the year however, the Corpus Christi IceRays fell to the Texas Tornado in the final game of the season 6-1 on Saturday night inside the Dr. Pepper Arena.

Like last night, Texas kicked off the scoring this time in the first period of play on a fluke goal. Taylor Herndon took the puck up the right wing wall and moved in below the goal-line. Herndon backhanded the puck to the front of the net however, it deflected off the foot of Anthony Stolarz and into the net for a 1-0 lead at the 10:06 mark of period one.

Eric Purcell tied the game at one goal apiece just 48 seconds into the second frame. Purcell fired a wrist shot from the right wing circle beating Texas goaltender Frederick Leisner. It was his team leading 22nd goal of the year.

Jackson Leef started a scoring spree for the Tornado with his first of the night. Leef wristed a shot over the shoulder of Anthony Stolarz with 8:24 left in the second period.

Ondrej Kopta increased the lead to two goals with his 7th goal of the year at the 13:44 mark of the second period. Texas added two more goals in the middle period. Marc Biggs recorded his 19th of the year and Jackson Leef notched his second goal of the night as the IceRays trailed 5-1 after two periods.

In the third, Jordan Lovick finished the scoring with his 19th strike of the season as Texas cruised to a 6-1 victory.

Anthony Stolarz stopped 35 of 41 shots in the loss
