Port Huron Icehawks News Release

PORT HURON, Mich. - Stan Drulia, head coach and general manager of the Port Huron Icehawks, announced that the team has signed defenseman Jamie Lovell.

Lovell (6-0, 190 lbs) played collegiate hockey at the University of Guelph after two years with junior leagues. During four seasons at Guelph, the defenseman averaged 17 points per season from the blue line. He turned professional in the 2005-06 season with the Odessa Jackalopes of the Central Hockey League (CHL), and amassed eight points. Last season he split time with the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees and the Tulsa Oilers of the CHL and tallied eight goals and 19 assists. He skated with Icehawks defenseman Andrew Davis while with the Jackalopes.

"Lovell is a hard working defenseman who can also generate points," Drulia said. "He adds depth to our already strong defensive line."

The signing brings the roster to 22 as the team prepares for the first two games of the season; Friday, October 19 at Flint and Saturday, October 20 at Fort Wayne.

The roster includes eight defenseman, 12 forwards, and two goalies.

Several players will not be active this weekend due to injuries. Defenseman Joe Markusen, forward Ryan McCarthy and defenseman Chad Swartzentruber have been placed on the injured reserve list.

All three are expected to return next weekend for a road game with Muskegon and back-to-back home games with Flint and Bloomington.

Forward Tab Lardner will also be sitting out this weekend. He is serving a two game suspension for an incident with his previous team, the Youngstown Steelhounds.

"We will be missing a number of key players this weekend, but we have a lot of talented guys who can fill in," Drulia said. "We have a lot of depth right now."

The Icehawks have also selected their captains for the season. Veteran defenseman Mark DeSantis will serve as captain. Lardner and forward Jeff Zehr were elected as alternates.

Individual game seats for all home games including the Oct. 27 opener and a special visit by Mr. Hockey, Gordie Howe on Sunday, October 28 are available now by calling 1-800-700-8888. Seats can also be purchased the Icehawks offices, McMorran Arena box office, all Ticketmaster locations and www.ticketmaster.com. Ticket information can be found online at www.porthuronicehawks.com.
