July 2, 2009 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Port Huron Icehawks News Release

ROCHESTER, MI - The Port Huron Icehawks selected two forwards and lost the rights to two other players during the International Hockey League's dispersal and expansion drafts on Thursday.

The dispersal draft was held to redistribute players from the 2008-09 final roster of the Kalamazoo Wings, who have elected not to participate in the 2009-10 season. In addition, an expansion draft was held for the two new clubs joining the IHL - the Quad City Mallards and the Dayton Gems.

During the dispersal draft, the Icehawks selected forward Trent Daavettila in the first round and center Shea Hamilton in the second round, before passing in rounds three and four. The Icehawks now hold the rights to both players for the 2009-10 season.

Daavettila (6-0, 185 lbs) is a 25-year old rookie who tallied 18 points in 20 games with Kalamazoo last season. Hamilton (5-11, 200 lbs) split time with the Muskegon Lumberjacks and Kalamazoo in the 2008-09 season, netting a combined ten points (1g, 9a) in 24 games. The 23-year old native of Altona, Manitoba is entering his third professional season.

The order in which players were selected was based on winning percentage in the final standings of the 2008-09 season, with the lowest-ranked team choosing after the two new member clubs.

The Icehawks also lost two players in the expansion draft. Goalie Ryan Mior was picked up in round two by Dayton and center Jason Chafe was selected in round six by Quad City. Teams were allowed to protect 13 skaters and one goaltender prior to the draft, losing a maximum of three players.
