Icehawks See Road Win Streak Snapped At Kalamazoo

November 23, 2008 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Port Huron Icehawks News Release

KALAMAZOO, MI - The Port Huron Icehawks were halted by a familiar face on Sunday as former Icehawk Mark Nebus notched five goals to help the Kalamazoo Wings to a 6-1 victory at Wings Stadium.

The K-Wings extended their winning streak to six games with the victory and also snapped the Icehawks road winning streak at five games. It was the second time the two teams met this week and the second victory for Kalamazoo. The K-Wings defeated the Icehawks 5-3 at McMorran Arena on Tuesday.

The K-Wings took an early two goal lead when Rick Cleaver and Nebus scored just 26 seconds apart at 1:14 and 1:40 in the first period. The Icehawks then pulled within a single goal when Nick Lindberg scored on the power play at 8:59 in the first. He was assisted by Daniel Tetrault and Jeff Zehr.

The goal would prove to be the Icehawks only tally of the night, however, as Nebus stole the show and tallied four consecutive goals, including one late in the first period and three goals in the third period. One of the goals came on the power play. With the performance, Nebus recorded his first professional hat trick and also tied a 25-year old Kalamazoo franchise record for most goals in a single game.

The Icehawks were outshot 36-31 in the loss. Port Huron goalie Kevin Desfosses (4-2-0-0) suffered his second loss of the season with 30 saves on 36 shots. Kalamazoo netminder Joel Martin turned away 30 of 31 shots for the win.
