Icehawks Goalie Mior Records Second Shutout In Third Start

FORT WAYNE, IN - Port Huron Icehawks goalie Ryan Mior turned in another outstanding performance on Friday and picked up his second shutout in three starts this season. The rookie stopped all 25 shots faced to lead his team to a 4-0 victory over the Fort Wayne Komets at Memorial Coliseum.

With the win, the Icehawks extend their road unbeaten streak to 12 games and improve their road record to a league high 15-5-1-1. The first place Icehawks (27-14-2-1) now hold 57 points in the International Hockey League standings and a six point lead over the second place Komets (22-15-1-6).

The line of Jamie Carroll, Nick Lindberg and Jeff Zehr provided the majority of the offense for Port Huron and combined for three goals and five assists. Carroll added one goal and two assists, while Lindberg notched a pair of goals and Zehr tallied three helpers. Kris Vernarsky also scored for Port Huron.

The Icehawks special teams also rose to the challenge, as they converted twice on the power play (2-7) and killed off seven penalties.

After much of the first two periods went scoreless, the Icehawks landed three goals in a span of just over eight minutes to take a 3-0 lead. Carroll scored the first goal of the game and eventual game winner on the power play at 17:28 in the second. He was assisted by Zehr and Jamie Lovell. The Icehawks fired two more goals early in the third, including an even strength goal by Lindberg and a power play tally from Vernarsky. Lindberg struck again late in the period to make it a 4-0 game.

The Icehawks outshot the Komets 30-25 in the win. Fort Wayne goalie Nick Boucher made 26 saves between the pipes.

The Icehawks will look to gain more ground in the IHL standings when they meet the Komets again on Saturday in Fort Wayne. The Icehawks return home next Wednesday for a bout with the Kalamazoo Wings.

Game Notes: The win marked the Icehawks fourth victory in as many games at Memorial Coliseum this season and also their second shutout over the Komets in the 2008-09 campaign. The Icehawks and goalie Kevin Desfosses blanked the Komets 1-0 on November 21...With three points tonight, Carroll extended his point streak to five games (4g, 4a).
