
Icehawks Gear Up For Double-Header at Fort Wayne

PORT HURON, MI - The first place Port Huron Icehawks extended their lead in the International Hockey League standings to five points over the second place Fort Wayne Komets and Kalamazoo Wings with a win on Tuesday. They will look to gain even more ground this weekend when they travel to Fort Wayne for back-to-back games with the Komets on Friday and Saturday.
The Icehawks defeated the Muskegon Lumberjacks 2-1 at McMorran Arena Tuesday to regain the lead league in winning percentage. The Icehawks have picked up points in their last four contests and hold a record of 9-2-2-1 in their last 14 games.
The Icehawks continue to be the league's best road team this season with a record of 14-5-1-1. They are currently riding an 11 game unbeaten streak on the road. They lost in overtime at Flint on Friday and fell to Muskegon in a shootout on Sunday at L.C. Walker Arena to snap their road winning streak at nine games, but extend their road unbeaten streak. They have not lost in regulation away from McMorran Arena since November 27.
Port Huron has been successful versus the Komets at Memorial Coliseum, winning all three match-ups there this season. The road team has almost always been victorious in the season series, with the Komets leading 5-1-0 at McMorran Arena. The Icehawks are 4-4-1-0 in the series overall. The Icehawks have outshot the Komets 314-268 in the season series, though the Komets hold the advantage in goals scored (24-20).
Fort Wayne has not been beaten in regulation in their last six contests (4-0-0-2) and is 5-3-0-2 in their last ten games. The Komets, who play Wednesday at Bloomington, will get some extra help this week from defenseman Jake Pence and goalie Sebastien Laplante who were activated from the injured reserve list today.
Misc. Icehawks Notes: After two games with the Komets this weekend, the Icehawks will not meet Fort Wayne again until March 13th. During the month of February, the Icehawks will meet Kalamazoo four times and Bloomington five times. They face Muskegon and Flint just once during February...Jamie Carroll is currently riding a four game point streak with three goals and two assists in that span. He leads the Icehawks and is ranked sixth in the league in scoring with 49 points (17g, 32a) this season...The Icehawks continue to be the league's top offensive team in the first period, outscoring their opponents 64-31. Skating to an early lead has paid off for Port Huron. They are 16-6-0-0 when leading after the opening period and a flawless 18-0-0-0 when they carry a lead into the third period.
