FORT WAYNE, IN - The Port Huron Icehawks extended their road winning streak to seven games on Wednesday with a 2-1 win over the Fort Wayne Komets at Memorial Coliseum.
With the victory, the Icehawks improved to 21-12-0-0 on the season and moved back into first place in the International Hockey League standings, one point ahead of the Kalamazoo Wings. The red-hot Icehawks have not been beaten in regulation in their last six games (5-0-1-0) and are 12-3-1-0 in their last sixteen contests.
Jamie Lovell scored on the power play early in the second period to give the Icehawks a 1-0 lead. He was assisted by Derek Patrosso and Daniel Tetrault. The Icehawks held onto that lead until late in the third period when Brad MacMillan scored at 14:49 to tie the game. Jason Chafe delivered the win several minutes later when he notched the game winner at 17:43.
The Icehawks got a boost from their special teams, as they converted on one of four power play opportunities and killed off nine penalties to hold the Komets scoreless on the power play. The Icehawks continue to lead the league on both the power play (22.0%) and the penalty kill (88.4%) on the road, and also lead on the power play overall (21.7%).
