Port Huron Icehawks News Release
PORT HURON, MI - In the first game after the IHL trade deadline passed, the Port Huron Icehawks defeated a Dayton Gems team full of new faces 4-2 at McMorran Arena. Four Dayton skaters played their first game in a Gems sweater and two more took on Port Huron for the first time as Gems.
The Icehawks gave up the first goal of the game for the fifth straight time as AJ MacLean gave Dayton an early lead with his 12th goal of the season. Peter Flache evened the score with a minute and a half remaining in the period. With an assist on the play, Mike Kinnie tallied his first point since returning from injury. Port Huron outshot Dayton 16-9 in the first period.
The Icehawks scored a pair of goals just 39 seconds apart in the last two minutes of the second stanza to give them a 3-1 lead heading into the third. Brandon Naurato scored at the 18:00 mark to take his point streak to a team-high ten games. Not to be outdone, teammate Derek Patrosso assisted on a Mickael Bedard goal at 18:39 to push his own point streak to ten games. The Icehawks outshot the Gems 13-7 in the second period.
Brandon Kaleniecki gave the Icehawks an insurance goal at 13:34 of the third period to secure the victory for Port Huron. The Icehawks outshot the Gems 11-10 in the period and 40-26 overall. Port Huron reached 40 shots on goal for the first time in five games.
Adam Russo earned the victory for Port Huron, stopping 24 of 26 shots. In his 12th consecutive start, Derek MacIntyre took the loss for Dayton with 36 saves on 40 shots faced.

With their first win in four games, the Icehawks improve to 38-21-04 on the season. Their 80 points keeps them in third place in the IHL. Dayton drops to 23-37-3-1 with the road loss. At 50 points the Gems remain in last place.
In his first game against his former team, defenseman Cody Hamilton failed to score a point for the first time since joining the Icehawks. His point streak comes to an end at eight games, with seven assists and a goal. With Muskegon off for the night, Naurato and Patrosso now have the longest active point streaks in the IHL.
Tonight marked the return of brothers Adam and Matt Maccarone, who represent the other half of the trade that brought Hamilton and Matt Auffrey to the Icehawks earlier this month. Adam played 55 games for the Icehawks this season, while Matt appeared in just six games with Port Huron before the trade.
The Icehawks return to action tomorrow night when the Flint Generals come to town for the first time in over a month for a 7:30 p.m. matchup. Flint earned a convincing 6-1 victory in Bloomington tonight as they chase the PrairieThunder for the fourth and final spot in the Turner Cup Playoff picture. Dayton will take tomorrow off before hosting the Fort Wayne Komets Sunday.
Single game tickets for all Icehawks home games are on sale now at McMorran Arena Box Office, any Ticket Master location or by phone. For more information, visit www.porthuronicehawks.com or call 810-966-3800.
