Louisiana IceGators News Release

Lafayette, LA. December 28, 2009. On Christmas night the Louisiana IceGators (7-16-0) blew a couple of third period leads, but still managed to clinch the victory against the Mississippi Surge (10-8-5) in a shootout.

The IceGators scored the only two goals of the first period. Daryl Moore netted a shorthanded goal 3:08 into regulation. The Surge came back to tie the game, 2-2, after a late second period goal and third period, equalizing goal credited to Matt Zultek.

Louisiana regained the lead with a slap shot by Trevor Karasiewicz from the blue line for their only power play goal of the night. The Surge pulled their goalie on the power play late in the game; Matthew Larke scored the tying goal on the 6-on-4 man advantage with 59 seconds remaining in regulation.

No scoring, on very few opportunities, during the 3-on-3 overtime led to a shootout to decide the victor. Newly acquired goaltender, Jimmy Spratt, stopped 27 out of 30 shots - including all four shootout attempts. Daryl Moore and Josh Bonar scored in the shootout for the IceGators. Louisiana won the game 4-3 (2-0 SO). The 'Gators will be back in action at Blackham Coliseum for three games in three nights beginning December 31 at 7:05pm against Huntsville.
