IceGators Shut out on Road by Ice Flyers

Louisiana IceGators News Release

Pensacola, Fla. - Thanksgiving will be a bit sour for the Louisiana IceGators this year.

The team's defense and special teams gave one of their worst performances of the season Wednesday night, giving up two power play goals en route to a 5-0 loss to the Pensacola IceFlyers. Ryan Kesti led the IceFlyers in scoring with two goals.

The IceGators are back in action Friday night when they travel to Georgia to play the Columbus Cottonmouths. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. EST.

"We gave a very lackadaisical performance tonight," said IceGators head coach Drew Omicioli. "We looked sloppy from the get-go. Give credit to Pensacola. They took advantage of their power plays early and put us in an early hole."

The IceFlyers certainly did take advantage of those early chances.

Pensacola took a 2-0 lead in the first period, scoring both goals off the man advantage. Corey Banfield drew first blood at 7:02 off assists from Joseph Holka and Adam Pawlick. Cole Ruwe tacked on the second goal with 2:58 left after getting help from Pawlick and Mike Krieg.

The IceFlyers never let the IceGators gain a foothold in the game.

Ryan Kesti scored back-to-back goals--one at 11:22 of the second period and another at 8:27 of the third--to put the Pensacola ahead 4-0. Joe Caveney added an insurance goal with 1:45 left in the game.

"We were outworked and outplayed," Omicioli said. "The lack of players over the last four games really caught up with us tonight."

According to Omicioli, the IceGators need to recover from this loss quickly and return to form so they can pick up the remaining four points up for grabs this weekend.

"We need to put this loss behind us and move on to Columbus," Omicioli said. "We will be looking for a much different result in both the score and our work ethic."
