Louisiana IceGators News Release

LAFAYETTE, La.--One week after allowing two victories slip through their grasp in overtime, the Louisiana IceGators refused to become a victim of a late slump.

The IceGators played what might have been their strongest third period of the season Saturday night, scoring three goals en route to a 4-2 win over the Mississippi RiverKings. IceGator goal Marco De Filippo was outstanding between the pipes, stopping 27 of 29 shots.

The IceGators return to action Tuesday night when they take on the Pensacola IceFlyers in the Cajundome. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.

"We put up a great battle tonight and took a huge two points for our team," said IceGators head coach Drew Omicioli. "In the last seven games, we have taken 12 points, which is a rare accomplishment.

"I'm proud of the guys and the way they battled with only four defensemen the whole game. That shows the character and drive this team has. As a coach, I'm excited about the future of this team."

The Mississippi RiverKings took a 1-0 lead 19 seconds into the game when Leo Thomas scored off assists from Andrew Randazzo and Matt Whitehead.

The IceGators came to life in the second period and showed no mercy towards the RiverKings.

Chris Wilson converted a penalty shot to tie the game at the 7:28 mark of the middle frame.

Tyler Klein and Adam Stuart each scored midway through the third period to put Louisiana ahead 3-1.

Devin Mantha cut the RiverKings' deficit to one goal with an unassisted goal with 7:26 left in the game.

Matt Viola iced the game with an empty-netter four seconds left in the contest.

When discussing Tuesday's game, Omicioli was blunt about what his team's mission for that contest is.

"We're looking to continue the point streak when we play Pensacola," he said.
