Louisiana IceGators News Release
LAFAYETTE, LA - The Louisiana IceGators (0-2) return to the ice on Friday at 7:05 against the Surge of Mississippi (2-0) for the second time in a little over a week. Just like the first game, this game is also in Biloxi.
Last week the IceGators lost a heartbreaker to Mississippi. The team was tied going into the third period but the IceGators faltered and allowed a goal in the third to give the Surge the 3-2 victory. The bad luck continued for the 'Gators on Saturday night when they lost in overtime 3-4 to the Pensacola Ice Flyers.
Even though the 'Gators have lost the first two games, Scott Darling (G) has been a bright spot. In the first two games he has allowed seven goals he has saved 96 goals. Currently he has the most saves in the Southern Professional Hockey League and also has a league best save percentage of .932.
"We have to help our goaltender," stated Head Coach Dave MacIsaac when asked about his team's progress in the first two games. "We have been out shot in each of our games this season but we have been in both of them at the end because of our [Scott] Darling. We are going to have to out shoot our opponents and make them count if we are going to come out on top."
In addition to the Darling, the 'Gators have been led by Beau McLaughlin and Dennis Sicard with two goals each. Both are tied for fourth most goals in the league. Both of these players are also in the top of the league in scoring percentage. McLaughlin is second at .400 and Sicard is third with .333.
Don't miss a moment of the action as the 'Gators return home to the dome. For ticket information call (337) 704-4423. 'Gators drop the puck in the dome on Saturday, November 13 against Fayetteville.
