Louisiana IceGators News Release

On Saturday October 17th more than twenty IceGators Legends are returning to Lafayette with the goal being to help raise funds for Rob Weingartner and his family in their time of need. Rob has recently been diagnosed with colon cancer and has been battling this cancer for the better part of a year now fighting with the same intensity that he brought to the rink every night. No one IceGators ever brought the personal toughness, determination and heart to the rink, like Rob did. No matter how beat up, bruised or broken he was, Rob just did whatever it took to help the Gators win, every single night.

We have all decided to lace up the skates once again for an IceGators Alumni Game at Blackham Coliseum to help support our unquestioned leader. The theme of the evening is "15" which was the number worn by Rob his entire IceGators career. Tickets to the game will cost $15.00, there will be three 15 minute periods and the game will have a 5:15pm start time. The event will be called "Fighting for Fifteen" and proceeds of the game will go directly to the Weingartner family to help pay for medical bills that are mounting.

The IceGators Legends will be hosting a pre-game outdoor party in the parking lot of Blackham Coliseum on the day of the game. It will start at noon and there will be plenty of refreshments, barbecuing, live music, a live radio remote and children's entertainment (dunk tanks, bouncy castles and more). We will also be hosting a live silent auction starting inside the Coliseum where fans will be able to bid on the special edition game jerseys as well as many other special items donated to the event to support the Weingartners.

Please join us on October 17th, to support our friend and his family in their time of need. Rob Weingartner is the greatest captain in the history of the Louisiana IceGators, and more importantly, a part of our family.
