Louisiana IceGators News Release

COLUMBUS, Ga. - After two dismal outings in Knoxville, the Louisiana IceGators righted the ship Sunday with a 3-1 victory over the Columbus Cottonmouths. Goalie Brad Barone was stellar between the pipes, stopping 37 of 38 Cottonmouth shots, while Dylan Hood and Zac Frischmon led the offense with two assists each.

The IceGators return to action return to action Friday when they travel to Illinois for the first game of a three-game series against the Peoria Rivermen. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.

"This is a great team win," IceGators head coach Drew Omicioli said. " After two touch losses this weekend, we came out and played in all three periods in all three zones.

"I feel this is a turning point in our season. (Forwards Jake) Hauswirth and (Jeremy) Boyer stepped up before the game and sent a message to the team. Barone then played a great game, and we had contributions for each and every player."

The IceGators jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second period thanks to goals by Alex Hudson and Brad Bourke. Hudson's goal came at the 4:12 mark off assists from Hood and Ben Kramer. Bourke scored his with 1:21 remaining in the frame off feeds from Hood and Frischmon.

Columbus cut the Louisiana lead to one three minutes into the third period when Al Graves scored off assists from Tyler Henry and John Hubbard.

The IceGators iced the game with 1:20 left in the contest when Travis Armstrong scored a power play goal off an assist from Frischmon.

Omicioli said he's confident about the IceGators' chances heading into next weekend's series against Peoria.

"The team is coming together at the right time," Omicioli said. "We've had to battle more call-ups than anyone. Because of that and injuries, we've struggled with team synergy. However, I feel great about this club, and I look forward to going to Peoria to play the league's best team. We know it's going to be a three-game war, but we will be ready. We look forward to the challenge."
