Louisiana IceGators News Release

Pensacola, Fla.--What a difference 24 hours make.

Just one night after suffering a 5-0 loss in their home opener, the Louisiana IceGators dished out their frustrations on the Pensacola IceFlyers, picking up a 4-0 road win. Goalie Matt Zenzola picked up his second win of the season by recording his first career shutout, stopping all 39 IceFlyer shots.

The IceGators (3-1) and the IceFlyers (3-1) will travel to Lafayette for a Sunday afternoon rematch in the Cajundome. The puck is scheduled to drop at 3:05 p.m.

"What a turnaround!" exclaimed IceGator head coach Kevin Kaminski after the win. "It was a much better effort than last night. The boys sacrificed their bodies for 60 minutes. We were hungry for the puck, and we wanted to score goals. The second effort was there. We took pride in the little things, and it paid off."

Kaminski also praised his rookie goaltender.

"Matt Zenzola was a wall tonight," Kaminski said. "We had a few too many turnovers tonight, but he made some spectacular saves."

In addition to the outstanding net minding, the IceGators' penalty kill was unstoppable. Louisiana quashed all 10 Pensacola powerplays, including five in the third period.

The IceGators opened the scoring with a trio of goals in the second period. Jason Cohen scored his fourth goal of the year on a powerplay at the 11:54 mark off of assists from Jeremy Boyer and Reid MacLeod. Three-and-a-half minute later, MacLeod added a goal of his own off of a feed from Jake Trask. Chris Wilson tacked on another score with 2:02 left in the frame. He received assists from Tyler Lyon and Zenzola.

Boyer added an extra insurance goal with 11:07 remaining in the game. Wilson assisted on the play.

Kaminski found very little to criticize following the game, saying that his team has laid the groundwork to make a successful run in this young season.

"The boys responded [to Friday's loss] and played with passion, heart, and battle. Everybody came to play and put together a much better team effort.

"This was a character road win. We have to build off it and keep pushing forward."
