IceGators announce Alumni game

Louisiana IceGators News Release
Lafayette, LA. August 20, 2009. The Louisiana IceGators announced today the playing of an Alumni game featuring numerous ex IceGators stars and staff. President and General Manager Brent Sapergia announced the Game will be billed as "Fighting for Fifteen" and proceeds of the game will go to former player and Captain Rob Wein- gartner. The game will be held on Saturday October the 17th with a 5:15 pm start. There will also be an inter squad game following the Alumni game that will conclude the IceGators training camp.
Rob has been battling cancer for the better part of a year and has fought with the same intensity that he brought to rink every night. The proceeds will go a long way in helping his family with medical bills that continue to add up.
The theme of the evening is "15" the number worn by Rob his entire IceGators career. The tickets will be $15.00, there will be three 15 minute periods and the goal is to raise $15,000 for the Weingartner family.
The response has been overwhelming with in excess of 25 players already confirmed. Just a few of the names that have confirmed are Ryan Shannahan, Jason McQuat, Rob McCaig, Joey Middlesteadt, Chris Valicevic, and John Spoltore who was instrumental in getting this project off the ground.
Spoltore says, there has never been a player that played with Rob that didn't literally love the guy and the response from ex-teammates was automatic. The guys and I look forward to an entertaining weekend with Rob and expect the community to rally for one of the original IceGators players who gave 110% every time he stepped on the ice.
The IceGators are planning a Season Ticket Party in conjunction with the weekend. The party will be held on Friday the 16th of October and will feature all the ex players in town. The list of confirmed players will be updated on a weekly basis. Tickets for the "Fighting for Fifteen" will go on sale August 28th, 2009 and will be available at the IceGators offices located at 2815 Johnston Street Suite 13 ½.
