Niagara IceDogs News Release
The Niagara IceDogs were edged 2-1 in a close shootout loss to the London Knights at the John Labatt Centre in London Friday night. Freddie Hamilton scored the only goal for Niagara to keep up his exceptional play, while Mark Visentin had another solid game in net for the 'Dogs in a close, hard-fought battle with the Knights.
The first period was scoreless; the Knights took a minor penalty late in the frame, and although the game remained even after 20 minutes, the IceDogs would begin the second period on the power play.
Freddie Hamilton continued his recent hot-streak by notching his third goal in the last two games (20th of the season) with the man advantage just 25 seconds into the period to put the 'Dogs up 1-0.
Hamilton's tally would be the lone goal of the period, and Niagara would take a 1-0 lead into the second intermission.
In the third period, both teams had a five-on-three power play opportunity, but after London killed off the penalties with a solid effort, they managed to convert on a power play of their own to tie the game 1-1.
With a 1-1 tie, the game would be forced into overtime.
Mark Visentin came up with some massive saves for the IceDogs in the overtime period, and the game would be decided by a shootout.
Both Vladislav Namestnikov and Ryan Strome scored early in the shootout, while both goaltenders made some impressive stops to keep the shootout going. After going through seven shooters, the Knights scored the shootout winner and took a 2-1 victory over the visiting IceDogs.
The IceDogs return to action tomorrow night as they host the Barrie Colts with a 7 p.m. puck drop.
Tickets are still available, and can be purchased at any IceDogs ticketing location, include the IceDogs box office at the Gatorade Garden City Complex, which opens a 5 p.m.
