IceCats Sign Four Players

WORCESTER, MA- Larry Pleau, the St. Louis Blues Senior VP/GM and Worcester IceCats GM of Hockey Operations, today announced that the IceCats have signed forwards Brendan Brooks and Robin Gomez, defenseman Brian Fahey, and goaltender Alfie Michaud. Per club policy, terms of the contract were not released.

Brooks, a 25 year-old native of St-Catharines, Ontario appeared in 32 regular season games for the IceCats last season after being called up from Peoria of the ECHL. He notched six goals and six assists for the ‘Cats: 32(6/6/12). The right-handed centerman also skated in 10 Calder Cup Playoff games this past season, with his only goal giving the IceCats a 3-2 triple overtime victory in Game Five versus Manchester. Brooks' six year professional totals reflect 135 goals, 129 assists and 503 penalty minutes in 384 games: 384(135/129/264)503.

Gomez has played two seasons as a professional, both with South Carolina of the ECHL. As a member of the Stingrays, he amassed 53 points and 422 penalty minutes in 139 games: 139(23/30/53)422. Before turning pro, the 6-1, 210 pound left winger skated a season for the Seattle Thunderbirds of the Western Hockey League (WHL) where he accumulated 12 goals, 20 assists and 230 penalty minutes in 64 games and was teammate of IceCat Greg Black; 64(12/20/32). The Squamish, British Columbia-born Gomez also played two-plus seasons with the Calgary Hitmen of the WHL where he had 434 penalty minutes, 30 points, including 10 goals in 186 games: 186(10/20/30)434.

Originally signed by the IceCats to a contract on February 4th, 2004, Fahey appeared in two games for Worcester last season, recording no points, before being loaned to the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies of the ECHL. The former defenseman at the University of Wisconsin had 37 points, including 11 goals in 55 games with Atlantic City. He ranked first among Bullies' defensemen with those 37 points and his plus-21 rating was fourth best on the team. The 2000 NHL Entry Draft selection of Colorado (4th round, 119th overall) also skated in 12 games with the Hershey Bears (AHL) last year, tallying one assist.

Originally signed by the Vancouver Canucks as a free agent on July 12th, 1999, Michaud (mee-SHOH) played the 2003-04 season with the Nurnberg Ice Tigers of the German Elite League (DEL), recording a 2.38 goals against average and a .908 save percentage. Prior to his season in Europe, the 27-year old backstop garnered a spectacular 20-4-4 record, a .927% and a 2.10 GAA for the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL. The former University of Maine product captured a National Championship and Tournament MVP honors in 1999 with the Black Bears and holds a North American goaltending record of 65-49-14 in 163 games.

The IceCats will play the first home game of the 2004-2005 season at Worcester's Centrum Centre on October 16th.
