St. John's IceCaps News Release
The St. John's IceCaps announced today the top prospects of the Montreal Canadiens will travel to Newfoundland and Labrador in October to compete for the fourth-annual Mary's Cup, sponsored by Mary Brown's restaurant chain.
The three-game, American Hockey League exhibition series will pit the Hamilton Bulldogs versus the IceCaps. The Syracuse Crunch won the last two titles, while the Norfolk Admirals claimed the inaugural crown in 2011.
The 2014 Mary's Cup series starts 7 p.m., Thursday, October 2nd at Joe Byrne Memorial Stadium in Grand Falls-Windsor, switches to the Gander Community Centre on Friday, October 3rd at 7 p.m. and concludes 4 p.m., Sunday, October 5th at Mile One Centre.
Admission for Thursday and Friday's games is set at $30 for seats and $27 for standing room (including tax and surcharges) and will be available starting Thursday, September 4th.
Fans can purchase tickets at the Gander Community Centre box office (in person from Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., by phone at 709-651-5931 or on-line at www.gandercanada.tix.com) and the Joe Byrne Memorial Stadium box office which is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7-9 p.m. Seated tickets purchased on-line at the Gander location are $31.25 (including tax and surcharge). Ticket information for the game at Mile One Centre will be announced at a later date.
An exciting new element has been added this year for fans in Central Newfoundland. With a minimum $4.99 purchase (before tax), guests of Mary Brown's at the Gander, Glovertown, Grand Falls-Windsor and Botwood locations will be given four free tickets Mondays in September starting September 8th (while supplies last).
Like last year, Sunday will be a 'school game' which will feature educational messaging on the video-board throughout the contest and all in-game elements will be student-focused. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in everything from the official puck drop to singing the national anthem to making in-game announcements. Students will be able to access tickets at a special student rate for this game.
"Once again I would like to thank Mary Brown's Famous Chicken and Taters for their continued support of the IceCaps and this exciting American Hockey League series, " said Glenn Stanford, Chief Operating Officer and Governor of the IceCaps. "I have no doubt the involvement of the legendary Montreal Canadiens organization will help make this the best Mary's Cup yet. These games will enable IceCaps fans to get their first glimpse at what promises to be an exciting, young team. Once again, we are pleased to include a school game in addition to the Mary Brown's ticket giveaway, which will help the IceCaps reach an even broader audience."
Hamilton President Stephen Ostaszewicz says the Bulldogs are eager to see how they stack up against the IceCaps.
"The Hamilton Bulldogs are excited to face off against the St. John's IceCaps in the Mary's Cup," said Mr. Ostaszewicz. "This exhibition series will allow us to see how our club matches up against the defending Eastern Conference champions and it affords us a chance to bond as a team in a unique setting while preparing for the season ahead."
Greg Roberts, Owner, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Mary Brown's Famous Chicken and Taters, said his organization is delighted to keep the Mary's Cup tradition alive.
"The 2014-2015 hockey season is fast approaching and Mary Brown's continues the proud sponsorship of the IceCaps for the fourth consecutive year," said Mr. Roberts. "We look forward again to offering participation in Mary's Cup to the local community. We are pleased to be associated with IceCaps hockey and wish them every success for the coming season."
The IceCaps also announced that training camp will run from September 29th to October 5th.
