St. John's IceCaps News Release

For the fourth consecutive year the St. John's IceCaps will donate $20,000 to Special Olympics Newfoundland and Labrador and serve as headline sponsor of the Special Olympics Festival, the charity's primary fundraiser.

The celebrations take place over two days with the sponsor luncheon noon tomorrow (Thursday April 23rd) at Clovelly Golf Course, featuring the cheque presentation from IceCaps Care and the Williams Family Foundation.

The festival continues Saturday evening with satellite parties at various metro locations, followed by an after-party concert with live music at Clovelly.

The IceCaps' contribution is made through IceCaps Care and the Williams Family Foundation which have provided approximately $2 million in financial and in-kind donations to charitable organizations, province-wide, over the past four seasons.

"The St. John's IceCaps first partnered with Special Olympics when our franchise was established back in 2011 and we are proud to continue this on-going sponsorship," said Danny Williams, President and CEO of the IceCaps. "Special Olympians are an important and inspirational part of the fabric of our communities and they deserve our support."

Festival co-chair Jamie Roche says support from IceCaps Care and the Williams Family Foundation enables Special Olympics Newfoundland and Labrador to provide grassroots sport programs and competition opportunities, from the local to the world level, for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics Newfoundland and Labrador has over 600 athletes in 14 community-based clubs, serving 85 communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.

"Special Olympics uses the transformative power and joy of sport to reveal the full potential of athletes with intellectual disabilities" said Mr. Roche. "We thank the IceCaps for helping us change attitudes and create a more inclusive society."
