IceCaps Charitable Donations Approaching $3 Million
June 17, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL)
St. John's IceCaps News Release
ST. JOHN'S, NL - IceCaps Care and the Williams Family Foundation contributed to 50 local charities during the 2015-16 American Hockey League (AHL) season, bringing their five-year total to 250 charities and nearly $3 million in funds and in-kind support.
And today at the IceCaps office, the organization's charitable wing made a $5000 donation to the Red Cross Fort McMurray fire relief effort. The IceCaps raised funds auctioning game-used, St. Paddy's Day team jerseys.
"It's with great pride the IceCaps organization looks back at five years of providing world-class entertainment and supporting important charities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador," said IceCaps President and CEO Danny Williams. "We've taken a strategic approach in dispersing funds to ensure we help organizations both big and small provide their much-needed community service."
"In regards to our donation today, just about every Newfoundlander and Labradorian has a personal connection to someone in Fort McMurray, Alberta - which has become like a second home for the people of our province. We're happy to do our part to help rebuild this city that was ravaged by devastating forest fires in May."
IceCaps Care raises funds for various educational, wellness and youth programs, and provides support to local charity and not-for-profit groups. These funds are raised primarily through the sale of 50/50 tickets during IceCaps home games, as well as in-kind donations and other fundraising initiatives. IceCaps players and mascot Buddy the Puffin also make hospital, school and other community-group visits during the season.
The Williams Family Foundation, created several years ago, places priority on assisting children facing health challenges.
