Indiana Ice News Release
And then there was ten.
The Indiana Ice's road warrior status reached new heights on Friday as the team dominated the Des Moines Buccaneers 7-1 to set the Ice franchise record with ten consecutive road wins.
Playing their fourth in a stretch of five away contests, Indy snapped the previous streak of nine games set during the 2010-2011 season. The last none-win on the road came at the hands of the Sioux Falls Stampede during a 5-4 decision on November 22, 2013.
Jacob Pritchard was on fire in the match, registering two goals and an assist on the night. Ice newcomer and St. Louis Blues draft pick Sam Kurker notched his second goal in as many games while also earning helpers credit on another bringing his two-game points total to four (2G, 2A). Hayden Stewart's 17-save performance earned him his second win in two contests with Indy.
Brian Pinho (2A) and Josh Jacobs (G, A) also logged impressive nights for the Ice while Aidan Muir and Dwyer Tschantz also lit the lamp for the visitors. Scott Conway added an assist on the night to tie a franchise record with points in 13 consecutive games.
For the third time in four games, Indy would tally all the goals needed for the win in the first 20 minutes off the tape of Mitch Hults and Kurker. Hults broke the scoring open when his wrister in the high slot beat Des Moines netminder Billy Christopoulos top shelf just three minutes into the contest.
While the Ice didn't score on the power play, the ensuing pressure took its toll on the Buccaneers' defense as Kurker's game winner crossed the goal line just four seconds after a minor hooking penalty expired midway through the opening period. The Reading, MA native battled Christopoulos in the crease before batting the loose puck into the twine for the 2-0 score.
Second period goals by Muir and Tschantz had Indy well in control of the contest before Des Moines was able to sneak the puck past Stewart on the power play for their only marker of the contest.
Pritchard proceeded to widen the gap in the third period with his seventh and eighth goal of the season sandwiched around Jacobs' strike.
With the decisive win, Indy comfortably sits atop the Eastern Conference with 51 standings points in 34 games.
The Ice look to add one more notch in their road-win belt on Saturday as they visit the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders at 8:05 pm Eastern. Hockey returns to the Circle City on Thursday, January 30 as Indy hosts Team USA from Pan Am Pavilion for "College Night" at 7:05 pm. College students with a valid college ID are eligible for special $5 admission and $1 beer prices. Must present a valid college ID to receive discounted prices.
