CLOSE SHAVES: The first win of the season eluded the Indiana Ice again as they went 0-1-1 in a pair of one-goal games last weekend. Friday night action saw the Ice fall 6-5 to the Sioux Falls Stampede. Joe Sullivan (2G, A) and Alex Talcott (G, 2A) both logged three-point games while Jason Pawloski saw his first USHL action in net. Dwyer Tschantz and Patrick Newell also scored for Indy in the match. Saturday's battle against the Muskegon Lumberjacks saw extra innings, ending in a 3-2 overtime loss. Tschantz and Scott Conway lit the lamp while Austin Kosack logged a pair of assists. Pawloski stopped 24 of 25 shots after taking over netminding duties midway through the first period.
THREE'S COMPANY: Friday's contest was a big night for Alex Talcott and Joe Sullivan as both players recorded their first three-point contests of the season in the 6-5 loss to the Stampede. Talcott scored the first of five Ice goals and dished out a pair of assists while Sullivan added a two goals and a helper in the contest.
RED, WHITE AND BLUE: Defenseman Josh Jacobs got an extra skating session last week as the 1996-birthyear blueliner was the first active Iceman selected for the CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game at the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, PA. This was the second year for the exhibition featuring the top US-born prospects for the upcoming NHL Draft.
PLAYER NOTES: Austin Kosack logged two assists Saturday against Muskegon...Patrick Newell tied a league-high with nine shots against Sioux Falls on Friday...Scott Conway, Dwyer Tschantz and Joe Sullivan all recorded their first USHL goals over the weekend...Tschantz is riding a two-game goal streak.
TEAM SCORES: Indy tied a league-high in second and third period shots against Muskegon on Saturday...The Ice has outshot opponents in all three games...Indy has only allowed one power play goal on 13 opportunities (92.3%)...The Ice is tied for third in road power play conversion (25.0%)...Five of Indy's nine goals have come in the second period.
ALUMNI REPORT: Three Indiana Ice alumni have their name listed on NHL rosters as the 2013-2014 season gets underway on Tuesday. John Carlson and Cameron Schilling will again tend the blue line in the nation's capital as members of the Washington Capitals while Torey Krug will rejoin the Boston Bruins after his whirlwind playoff tour with the "B's" last season.
