Ice Suffer in 4-3 Net Loss

December 5, 2013 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Indiana Ice News Release

There is an old adage in hockey is that the "pipes were friendly" when a shot ricochets safely off the goal post. When the Indiana Ice hosted the Green Bay Gamblers Thursday evening, the net was not friendly to the Ice in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Gamblers.

After Indy outshot Green Bay 6-0 to start the five minute extra session at Pan Am Pavillion, the momentum was halted when the hosts were whistled for "too many men on the ice" on a bad line change. Indiana argued the net came off the moorings a split second before the Gambler's Matthew Weis scored the winning goal on the ensuing power play 18 seconds before the final horn.

The Ice still earned a point in the overtime loss, but still skated off frustrated after dominating play for most of the evening by outshooting Green Bay 35-19. It took Alex Talcott's goal with 1:38 remaining in regulation to send the game to overtime.

Joseph Sullivan and Vince Pedrie helped even the count at 3-all on Talcott's 4th goal of the season.

Indiana had a 10-3 shots on goal advantage at the first intermission but only held a 1-0 lead. Jacob Pritchard collaborated with Brian Pinho and Talcott on the game's first score.

The Gamblers reversed the lead in a span of 33 seconds in the middle frame. Brent Gates and Ryan Lough tallied at the 2:10 and 2:43 mark to give the visitors a 2-1 advantage.

It took only 14 seconds of the third period before Patrick Newell drew the hosts into a tie. Aidan Muir and Chris Martenet earned assists on Newell's 3rd goal of the campaign.

After Lough notched his second of the evening at 2:33 of the third session, Talcott sent the game into overtime.
