Ice Rays Shut out the Bugs

The Shreveport Mudbugs (16-14-5) let the game get out of reach in the 3rd period falling to the Corpus Christi Ice Rays, 4-0 Friday night at the American Bank Center.

The Mudbugs got off to a rough start in the opening period. Leo Chuard was able to make plenty of marvelous stops including a few double-pad stack saves to keep the game scoreless after one period of play. Corpus Christi out-shot Shreveport, 19-5.

The Ice Rays scored the game's first goal at 11:06 of the 2nd period when Santeri Hartikainen was able to lift a goal past Chuard on the far side to give Corpus Christi the 1-0 lead. The Bugs were able to put more pressure on net, but were left scoreless after two periods of play. SOG were 32-17 in favor of the home team.

The game got away from the Mudbugs in the 3rd period as Kyle Moore scored a pair of goals in less than a 3 minute span to extend the Ice Rays lead to 3-0. Corpus Christi would add another goal and Brian George made 40 stops to shutout the Mudbugs, 4-0.

Chuard took a tough loss as he looked impressive for the first two periods and finished with 39 saves on the night.

The Mudbugs and Ice Rays conclude their two-game set from the American Bank Center tomorrow night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ?
