Ice Pilots fall to Augusta in third period

PENSACOLA, FL - The Pensacola Ice Pilots surrendered an early third-period goal and fell 3-2 to the Augusta Lynx on Saturday night at The Hangar at The Pensacola Civic Center.
The Lynx won their ninth game on the road and 10th overall, while the Ice Pilots fell to 2-10-1-1. The two teams will meet two more times next week in Augusta Georgia on Tuesday and Thursday.
The Ice Pilots raced out to a 1-0 advantage 13 seconds into the opening period when Travis Lisabeth scored from Dwayne Hay and Mike Wirll. That goal prompted fans to shower the ice with Teddy Bears and stuffed animals as part of the annual Teddy Bear Toss. The toys will be collected and distributed to children at arena hospitals as well as other beneficial childrens' organizations.
Pensacola had a 5 on 3 power play for more than 90 seconds late in the opening period, and an extended power play thanks to a four-minute minor but failed to score.
In the second period, Augusta tied the game up 1-1, before the Ice Pilots regained the lead when Colin Hemingway scored on the power play from Derek Krestanovich and Jordan Krestanovich to make it 2-1. Just near the end of the period, Augusta pulled even again on a power play goal to make it 2-2. It was just the second power-play goal allowed by the Ice Pilots in their last 37 times shorthanded.
The final period was a see-saw affair with both teams having good chances to score and it would be Miles Zimmer netting the winner at the 7:38 mark. The Ice Pilots threw everything they had in the final five minutes to try and tie the game and came close when Brent Henley's shot went off the post.
Brett Jaeger posted his first win of the season in goal, while Mike Ayers took the loss. The Ice Pilots out shot Augusta 37-28 with 32 of the shots coming in the first 40 minutes.
Derek Krestanovich and Mario Joly led the Ice Pilots in shots on goal with five.
The Ice Pilots head on the road next week for four games with two of them in Augusta on Tuesday and Thursday night. Both games begin at 6:35 central, 7:35 eastern. Next Friday the Ice Pilots will travel to Charlotte to face the Checkers at 6 pm central, 7 pm eastern and then conclude the long week in South Carolina to face the Stingrays at 6 pm central, 7 pm eastern.
